BIZARRE sound reinforcement problems

Here's the deal, see.

I was at church rehearsing for tomorrow. The keyboard suddenly began coming out of the bass amp and the guitar amp. Seriously. Then, the K/B monitor died. It just ceased putting out ANY sound.

Those sound demons are pretty wicked.

I've dealt with a wide variety of freaky sound problems, but this one takes the cake.

I returned a couple of hours later to rehearse with the team for the Spanish service. This time, I played guitar (I didn't have mine--I was supposed to be playing keys again). So, I played through the amp that was on stage. I found that if I engaged the Tubescreamer (TS9), I could increase the volume of the K/B. Also, I could affect it significantly by turning the tone up/down on the guitar.:?:

Anyone else ever have a similar problem?

Share your weird sound difficulties. This could be interesting.

Re: BIZARRE sound reinforcement problems

That's the weird thing. The bassist is using a little kickback Fender practice amp, and the guitarist was using a Vavletronix 30W.

The bassist NORMALLY runs into a direct box, and out to the amp (like my setup when I use the POD). Last night, he plugged directly into the amp.

The guitarist was plugged directly into the amp. He removed the mic from the amp when the problem arose.

The problem continued when we rehearsed for the Spanish service. I was playing guitar through the Valvetronix.

This morning, the problem had disappeared. The only thing changed was the stage manager ran a new cable to the K/B monitor. The cable had a loose wire. But I don't think that had anything to do with the weird stuff.

Apparently the signal from the K/B was bleeding into the AC circuit, but I don't know how. I've NEVER seen a problem like this. Nor had anyone else (and most of the MUSOS on stage were former professional musicians, one of whom had a recording contract with Warner Bros.).

I don't think we had any of the wireless mics out, but I could be wrong. OTOH, we had 5 of them on this morning.
