BKP Mules the way to go?

Hey guys, how is it going?

Im using a Gibson LP Trad 2013 for recording. Its a nice guitar and it currently has Classic 57. Altough i like the pickups and i did record most of the rhytm parts with it, i have 2 issues:

- id like a more "refined" tone for lead parts. The 57 are great but i find they are not very dynamic, especially when you roll off the volume.
- they sound very, very Slash-esque. Dont get me wrong, i love Slash's tone, and im playing some Modern Hard Rock but im not really going for that tone.

I was considering some Antiquities but i got offered this Bare Knuckle Mule set (alnico IV apparently). So whats the deal?

The setup is very simple, a modded Marshall JMP with a 2x12 with Creambacks. That and the Les Paul, no effects going on (maybe a booster if needed?).

Thanks!

Offered? If the price is decent, take 'em. SD just started offering an A4 set, which is what I was thinking as I read your post. However I figure that the Mules might have a similar feel to them. A4 magnets have a very balanced eq that lets the sound of the wind come through. So again, go for it. From what I've heard of 57's, you can only improve.

The BKP's have a good rep. I know a popular combo is a Riffraff and mule together, but I'm not sure in what positions they are put.

Agreed, if you can get a good deal on the Mules, give 'em a try! You've really got nothing to lose (except money...ha ha!)

I believe the Mule neck and the RR bridge are suggested as their Page set, according to BKP.

The product has had a pretty good rep among some players. I have found many more bridge options that I prefer than their neck models.

I've been seeing and hearing a lot over several months about a changing sentiment toward the company. It will be interesting to see how it pans out.
