I finally got around to throwing on a set of these black coated Black Diamond strings I picked up at the Dallas Guitar Show. Black Diamond is very small compared to GHS or the big boys. These strings are made in Sarasota, Florida. Mine are the 9-42 set. I put them on my #1 ESP M-II Custom Shop. First, they look really weird at first. The pic doesn't really show it. It just looks very strange. If you have a black headstock you'll find yourself twisting and turning the guitar so you can see the strings while you put them on your guitar. I just put them on last night so I have only played a little bit. My first impression is that they feel a little different but I can't really describe it (I know that is a lot of help). I don't like or dislike- I can just tell these aren't like normal strings, they feel a little different while bending IMO. Second, they sound like a normal new set of strings- pretty bright. I obviously can't A/B a set of strings but I am thinking they may actually be brighter then GHS Boomers or EB Super Slinkys. They sure aren't darker to my ear. I'lll report back on how long they last.... I can usually get several months on a set of strings so we will see.
This suckers sell for $9.35/set at juststrings.com. I got mine directly from BD for 2 sets/$5 at the show- this was obviously a special promotional price. I am digging them! I may even break my cheap strings rule and fork over the $9.35 if they last a long time.
