Black LPC with Floyd

Questionologist
About 15 years ago I saw a local ad for a guy who was trying to get rid of a black LP Custom he put a Floyd on. He was asking $900 so you know nobody wanted it. To this day, I'm kicking myself for not grabbing it.

I know there is the LP Axcess but I don't have $4500 and it's not quite what I want anyway. I want a black or darkburst LPC or (if it even exists) wall to wall trans cherry (not burgundy). Anybody know somebody with a "blasphemous turd" like that laying around they want to get rid of?

Re: Black LPC with Floyd

Not the worst idea in the world, and certainly more in my price range. But I still want that LPC binding and split diamond on the headstock. And gold....

There are some with Kahlers from back in the day that I would consider too.

Re: Black LPC with Floyd

I remember a black LPC that had a Floyd fitted and the paint removed from the top only that was on eBay UK back in about 2003 for £600 that I really wish I'd grabbed! :D

Re: Black LPC with Floyd

If you can find one, there are Les Paul Custom Kites with Floyd's that came in black. The only downside was that they came with a 1 volume, 1 tone arrangement.

They are also a lot thinner than a traditional Les Paul.

They can be had for between $1,500 - $2,300. I wouldn't go any higher than that. I got mine (tom/stop tail) for 2k and it was in mint condition.

Re: Black LPC with Floyd

If I were you, I'd get an Epiphone Les Paul Custom in the color you want, put a Floyd in it, dye the fretboard black to look like ebony, and call it a day.

Re: Black LPC with Floyd

Didn`t Neal Schon have a sig model with a Floyd? Or was that a One off?

If nothing else, buy an LPC and have a Floyd or Kahler professionally mounted to it. That´s probably the easiest route to go, anyway, becasue factory Floyds on LPs are a rare occurrence to begin with...

Re: Black LPC with Floyd

Zerb, it would be hard to find to be sure. Very few LPC's, if any, were Floyd-ificated in Nashville. I assume all would have been so modded by the buyer. If money wasn't a problem, I would go the route you suggest, but $3,000 plus I don't have right now.

Re: Black LPC with Floyd

Any reason why you don't buy a random Burny or Greco and have somebody put on the floyd?

Re: Black LPC with Floyd

Why hasn't anyone mentioned the Epiphone "Nightfall"? (easy to swap the Floyd Special for an OFR, if it bugs you that much)

EDIT: NEVERMIND, he wants a "real" Gibson...

Understandable.

There is of course also a kit route you could go if you`re not put off building it yourself... but you`ll stil end up at around 1500 or so: https://buy.precisionguitarkits.com/shop/lp-59-for-you-to-customize

Never used them but heard good things.

Other than that, I think patience is the only recommendation I can make :beerchug:

Black LPC with Floyd

Floyd Rose is coming out with a trem for a Les Paul that requires no routing

Re: Black LPC with Floyd

why not build one? wait, hear me out. You can get the routing done, you just have to attach body and neck, do the finishing (stain and then top it off with tru oil, super easy), install great hardware, and for less than 1300$ you've got yourself an amazing guitar. if you play your cards right. Buy a 'gibson' headstock overlay on ebay, and it's for all intents and purposes, a Gibson. but with better hardware, better pickups, better woods, better tone and most likely better playability.
