What height do you all have your pic upset too with the black winters? I can't seem to get it right, can you gimme some suggestions?

Re: Black winter height?

I never break out a ruler and measure where my pups are. I eyeball it and then tweak them according to my ear. That's what you should probably do, because everyone on here is going to have a different opinion on what sounds good.

^^
I'd say that measuring for a starting point, and then adjusting to find the sweet spot might save some time. Though I suppose that can be done by "eye ball" once you get a general sense of your starting point because you have done it quite a few times before.

Re: Black winter height?

My bridge was 3 mm from the strings. Neck flush with the pickup ring.

You may want to check out this blog post by our own Orpheo.
Oh trust me I've read just about every SD blog lol and they are ultimately what got me here :) I followed what the blog said originally and got it roughly to where it sounded pretty bad ass but then I adjusted it according to a blog post by Adam and he said something like the closer the pups are to the strings the brighter the sound in general. But it made mine sound pretty muffled only at 50% gain on the cube. I just wanted to see what other people had theirs at just to compare lol I currently have the neck set roughly 2mm above the ring and right about 4 or 5mm from the strings on the bridge. How are you rocking yours? Rough estimates, you don't have to break out a ruler lol

I set it wherever it sounds best. You should too….

Too close = dead strings

Too far = too low input.

Start with whatever is "spec" for your guitar and season to taste. This takes a LOT of back and forth and tweaking with a screwdriver, play/listen, rinse and repeat. You CAN'T read about the right setting!!!!

Re: Black winter height?

Yeah sounds like u got a little to close
To The strings and suffered some String pull. Start lowering it back Dow little
By little til u find the sweet spot to your ears

Re: Black winter height?

I start with distortion cause that's what I play the most of. When I find it I double check on clean to make sure the bass side isn't over powering the treble side and vice verse.

Re: Black winter height?

Personally, I experiment for about a half hour. There is usually a place that sounds better than all the others. Then I listen to the balance of the strings and adjust the screws if I need to.
