Blackout bass pickups must be the shiz

I wana try them out but there's almost no used market for them. I have a Dean Edge 4 with the factory active dual coils and since I run sd's in my guitars I thought I'd give em a try rather than emgs. They're pretty spendy at $100 a pop.

What do you guys think? Meh, or "you can't find used ones dummy because you'd have to steal em out of my bass after you pry it out of my cold dead hands?

I have one BO Bass humbucker. I tried it in a mid-to-low priced instrument, together with an SD/Basslines active EQ. In my opinion, the pickup was too much for that instrument. Next, I tested an EMG-35 P4 and a -35 J. Both of those seemed better suited to that particular instrument. Right now, I do not have a suitable host instrument in which to try the Blackouts Bass humbucker.

Not quite.... Neck pup is NIIICE, bridge a bit boring, buuuuut - here's the kicker - they're WEAKER than the APJ-2 set. Noticeably so.

Nice balanced modernish tone, pretty strong - yeah... Hotter than all hell and mighty crazy? Nope, leave that to other Seymour actives.

PS got em used a cpl weeks back. "used" used from Musicians Friend, total savings ~$50 for an unused open box return (someone musta got the wrong size). For the money though and for what you actually get, just buy NECK ONLY. Bridge has nothing to add in that set. Keep it stock & disconnected or mix with an EMG.

Its not the pups or the bass, its the EQ. Active EQ over BO Bass is superfluous... And that even more powerful APB2? Quite fun in an indo IbbyGio 200 i bought busted up for $25 (pickup was $35 used on CL, seemed like a good match lol), almost as delicious as in a proper MIJ.

I watch Ebay for those non-EMG actives but it's slow going.

Point taken. I wanted to be able to shape the midrange of the BO bass humbucker. The SPC did more than I needed. The BO bass EQ kit is a better choice. It concentrates on boosting the low end and tweaking up the useful midrange.

For the record, on my mid-price bass, the humbucker is in roughly the "Stingray" position.

And that even more powerful APB2?

I have the Blackouts 2-band EQ paired with a Pro Active P Bass pickup. I love this combination.
