well im quite possibly the first to do this. i got my neck pos. blackout this morning and put it in the bridge pos. of my LTD laiho V. i had my share of wiring problems, but its in now. ironically, its a bit noisy, but thats cause i did a **** job wiring it up with all the problems i had. the wires wouldnt stick to the back of the pots. i think the sandpaper thing did the trick i guess.
aaaanyhow. my first impressions are that it sounds pretty awesome. its exactly what i was looking for in this guitar. it offsets the brightness quite nicely, but not in an excessive or overwhelming way like the invader. its got a really nice low-mid chunk to it. and the highs are no longer shrill on this guitar. its got very nice definition as well, far from muddy. i definitely hear a lot of the natural sound of the guitar coming through too, the snappiness of the alder/maple/ebony combo. cleans arent bad. im not much of a clean-bridge guy, but they sound pretty good. distort a bit if you play real hard, but you can always roll back the volume. the distortion overall isnt real overpowering, which is nice. sounds maybe just a bit hotter than my JB and DD.
overall this is a very welcome addition to my collection. SD got it right, as always it seems. now ive never used an EMG85 in the bridge, so i cant compare there, but im really happy with this. ill have to see how it sounds through my POD later. also, i should mention it just looks cool. the EMG-ish matte look, on top of a black chrome housing. its classy lookin. SD logo is subtle, but nice to have there.
one word of advice to duncan- maybe make the wires for the battery clip a bit longer, or have an option of extra long ones. i had to put an extension on mine to get it to my output jack, cause its all the way up on the top V fin. id imagine a lot of metal players are gonna be buying these, so anybody with jackson-style Vs are gonna have this problem. or not. i just used some wire from the stock pickup i took out, it was pretty easy.
