Blackout wiring again, now the tone control

Ok, so in an earlier thread ArtieToo helped me fix a problem that was caused be an improperly grounded volume pot. Got that fixed :) Thanks again Artie.

Now the tone pot. I resoldered the capacitor and the tone control now works, but barely. The difference between full up and full down is very subtle. Is that just how these are with the supplied barell capacitor labeled as .1k 250vcmc. My other guitars have a much more noticable treble roll off. Does anyone that's using Blackouts with one volume and one tone hear the same thing?

Straight from the Seymour Duncan Blackout wiring diagram:

Cap value is .47uf, (not .047uf). The earliest Blackouts came with a .1uf, but we decided to increase the value to .47uf to make the tone control more effective.

Sounds like you may have an early one. Try replacing the tone cap with a .47uf.

Hello me it's me again :-)

I was just comparing the wiring diagram that's linked to the Blackouts on the Seymour Duncan web site with the one on EMGs and it's different. The SD diagram shows the capacitor between the middle tab on the tone pot and the back of the pot. The EMG shows it between the middle tab of the tone pot and the left tab (input I guess) of the volume pot. Could this make a difference? I'm stumped.

Artie you beat me to my own reply. I'll steal a .47 from my jar of guitar parts and give it a shot. Thanks.

Here I go again, posting to my own posts.... I've got two caps from passives that I replaced that are both labeled 2A223J. They're red, flat, rectagular caps, any idea what values these would be?

OK, so I don't have any capacitors even close to .47uf and I checked a bunch of guitar parts retailers online and can't find anyone with .47uf caps. Anyone know where I can get them?

I've got a couple of .47uf OD's that I'll never use. Got them by mistake. Drop me a PM with an addy and its yours.

I just realized there was a link here :smack::smack::smack:
This would have saved me some time, I should be more observant.
Thats a new diagram. When I installed my Blacksouts there was no diagram for them under Support/Wiring Diagrams/Humbuckers menu. The only one was under Products/Blackouts/Wiring Instructions. That one's still there and doesn't have that note about the capacitor. As a matter of fact that diagram actually shows a .047uf cap. Now that would REALLY be a subtle tone control:1:
