Blackouts Vs JB/59

hello people, im new here ...

i am confused... as in to get a high gain, heavy distortion, rough, powerful, crunchy, heavy RIFF.. and also to get a sweet, warm, melodious.. lead tone...

should i get the JB/59 or get the Blackouts (NOT the singles)...

i mean i luv the distortion of "Children of Bodom, Lamb of God, Slipknot, Pantera, Slayer"...

but i also want the lead tones of "Arch Enemy ( Im a HUGE fan of M.Amott and C,Amott's lead lines but their riffs arent that great), Jason Becker,.. ( However i hate to say that Dimebag's lead tone wasnt the best, nor even THAT great "...

i know i did not mention about enough bands.. but the message is simple... which pickup to choose for a combination of awesome riffs (heavy distortion) and nice lead too...

Re: Blackouts Vs JB/59

Depends on what you play most really.
The JB does a great lead tone, but I'll never own one again because that all it does IMO.
The clean tones are horrible, the rhythm tones I get aren't great either because of the loose bass.
The Blackouts, on the other hand, not only have an amazing clean tone, but if you need definition, and a tight bottom end to handle extreme metal, few pickups can do it better.
Another plus of the Blackouts is how quiet they are, which allows you to back off your noise gate a fair bit.

what type of guitar are we talking about? that will have a huge bearing on what will and won't work for you re p/up selection

IIRC, the only players you mentioned that use actives are slipknot and COB... can you elaborate on the sound you're going for or what elements of these bands' sounds you want to get?

Re: Blackouts Vs JB/59

Slipknot's riffs, rhythms guitar has good distortion.. so does COB, n Pantera's...i mean i like to play death metal/thrash metal.... so i want superb distortion... HEAVY sound...

as for the lead tones... Arch Enemy has a good lead tone....great tone in fact....

to b explicit.. i want EXTREME ROUGH HEAVY RIFF (distortion).... and awesome lead tones.. l

Re: Blackouts Vs JB/59

I have the blackouts on all my guitars now...I had emgs but blackouts kill them so now i only run blackouts...I play megadeth, tastement, death, along with a bunch of jason becker cacophony type sounds and i love these pickups....although i love the dave mustaine livewires too...I believe these to be the best pickups in the market for thrash/death stuff
