blender pot strat

hi yall--- if I wanted to have a blend between my neck and bridge, using a volume pot would I just make a jumper between the pickups through the pot? And if that works do I need to ground the pot or not?

blender pot strat

There's other ways to do it. That one appears to make positions 1 and 5 nearly identical and uses a master tone. Note the blender is not grounded, the last lug is open. The ground on the back of the blender pot - don't think that's doing anything. If you ground the last lug of a blend pot you'll get no sound when turned to that lug.

You don't need to ground the blend pot. Also be sure to use a no-load pot, otherwise you'll always have a little bit of blend going on, even when it's 'off'.

Re: blender pot strat

thanks guys... I did the first method and basically got a 3/1 ratio of bridge to neck with the pot all the way on direction, and zero sound in the opposite direction. .... so...it seems if i unground it, then it will behave differently as the true variable resistor it should be. i also think while i am in there i may go ahead and send post-pot signal to the output hot, instead of to neck pup hot .... anyway ran out of time so will tackle it in a few weeks. So other question: I think i need a very trebly neck pup humbucker in sc size, what would you suggest? the hotrails i put there is pure mud. in an ideal world i would love a very bright tele neck sound but it may be asking to much from a humbucker

Re: blender pot strat

A firebird type mini humbucker works well in the necks of strats and teles ime ymmv

Re: blender pot strat

i love firebird tone a la early Johnny Winter. is there a pup that comes in SC size with that tone, pretty edgy high, not lots of low end?

Re: blender pot strat

i did try no ground and a couple other configs, no success, hum and not good tone, so i ditched the idea
