Yes that is a good point There are efforts to change it but it is so well-thought and working that it will be as lasting as sheet music and guitar tabs.

A couple of synths allow 1.1 or 1.2, which basically allows more than 128 steps of velocity ... I've yet to hear anyone I know personally to complain that 128 steps is not enough, however!
