Blown speaker??

I have an Orange 4x12 with 4 Celestion g1265's, at low normal volumes it seems fine, but when i turn up i get this farty thud from the top right speaker. At first i thought something was loose so i opened it up and tightened everything, but I still have the problem.

I play pretty loud with the master on my dual rec between 2-3 o'clock, so i'm not sure if i'm just too fu**ing loud, or something is really blown.

are you sure its only the one speaker ? could just be natural breakup but if it is just the one speaker I would think it is in some way damaged

yeah, its only that speaker, and only when I have my master about half way or more. Mainly when palm muting. Its not noticable in the mix, but its gonna be an issue when i start recording next month.

Disconnect that speaker and another. Run them one at a time into your amp.
That will tell you if it is the speaker.
If you already know it is the speaker.....

yeah, its only that speaker, and only when I have my master about half way or more. Mainly when palm muting. Its not noticable in the mix, but its gonna be an issue when i start recording next month.

you may have to just replace the speaker or take it in to be looked at. At least with recording though you can mic a different speaker but regardless i'm sure you want to fix the problem. I have never had a speaker blow on me so I'm not too informed about it so hopefully someone with more knowledge can chime in.

I'll have to take a look... i think i remember the center of the cone being pushed in a bit when i got it. Not sure if thats the same speaker though.... I'll have to open it up today.

The dustcap wouldn't cause that. Check the cones and around the back where the spider (the suspension part) attaches to the frame. Old celestions have a habit of coming unglued there.
