Blueman has converted me! I love the 250k volume pots on my Les Pauls.

Jammed with the band today. I think I've got the setup I love now; I actually took the speakers out of the amp and encased them in the same wax that Epiphone uses in their pickups. Then I stuck them in a bucket of water for a really new age kind of thing. I put the 25K pots in the guitar, then stuck a few resistors on those as well, while dipping the pickups in....not wax, but LEAD. These little tricks cut the highs, mids, lows, everything! When rehearsal was over, the guys said I sounded better than I ever had. I was so happy I nearly wept. I love you guys!

Try switching the pots. The volume pot makes the biggest difference in tone, so if it is too dark, you want the 1M to be the volume pot.

If you were being sarcastic, ignore that. :D

Interesting read, i just put gibson iommis in my SG copy and i find the neck muddy and dark but the guy also gave two 1 meg pots so i may have to try them out. What cap would be ideal for a dark neck pickup?

The cap has more to do with what your tone pot does when you roll it back, so it is the last thing you have to worry about with a guitar that is too muddy. I cannot tell whether or not they have any affect with the pots wide open, so if they do, it must be minor. And it is probably more and more minor as you go up in pot value.

Make sure you try lowering the pickup too. You can go as low as the height adjustment screws will let you! If it gets too quiet when you do that, bring the pole piece screws up to get the volume back.
