Blues Deville recap

I have a Fender Blues Deville that needs recapping. I have made a list using my schematic but I would like a definite list of which caps are needed, any suggestions as to where to find one?

Re: Blues Deville recap

I'd take it to a tech if you can't test the caps. Some of the ones you wanna replace may be okay?
Have you put them on a capacitor tester and checked them?

Re: Blues Deville recap

a capacitor checker is a modern Digital Multimeter
the same ones they sell at Harbor Freight for $5

remove one leg from the circuit
and test it

if you dont have a capacitance test on your meter set it for ohms

you will see the resistance count up or down, depending on the orientation of your leads

when it ticks to a point it will "reset" and start over

resetting is when the cap discharges ( be careful )

the voltages inside the amp are very dangerous

*******
the caps can hold a charge long after the amp is unplugged

BE CAREFUL

Re: Blues Deville recap

That's why I suggest a capacitor tester with alligator clamps to hook to caps.
Either that or discharge caps first. You can get hurt really badly using a multi meter to test caps with if you don't know what you're doing.

Anytime I hear this I think of when I went to AIT in the Army. Was a school for satcom operators and we learned electronics from the ground up. It became a common joke for someone to charge up a capacitor then huck it at you and yell "catch!" or "think fast!" You learned very quick not to catch anything that was tossed at you. Good times. :knockedou

you can't test it with it in the circuit, in either case

but the caps really don't go bad that often

my buddy had his Twin re-capped and tubed by the famous Mr Langraf 20+ years ago
he has played it 4-5 hours a day every day
gigged it several times a week for years

it still sounds great
