Blues Saraceno Fuzz Pedal

Gear Ho
I was just checkin out Fuzz pedals on Ebay and stumbled upon this. Never heard it, or heard OF it till now. Looks cool! I like the idea of a frequency knob.

Re: Blues Saraceno Fuzz Pedal

Ooh, I want one, just for the look!

-that dirty boy amp he talks about would be cool. I remember hearing a Blues Saraceno album a few years back and being very impressed with the tone. Sort of a variation on early VH.

Re: Blues Saraceno Fuzz Pedal

I was thinking the same thing. I want one just cause it looks funny and cool!
I think that's how boutique pedals are judged, these days. Ya gotta stand apart from the other numerous boutique companies. Honestly, I think StratDeluxer should start his own pedal company and paint them with some wacky design like this one.

Re: Blues Saraceno Fuzz Pedal

I tried it. It's awesome. Honestly, there's nothing like this pedal out there. The secret is the "Frequency" switch, which works kind of like the Resonance Switch on the SD Pickup Booster. Those six positions really give this pedal variety.

I can't say enough good things about it.

The only thing I don't like about it is the Germaniums. I mean, they're cool and vibey, but they're not consistent and they tend to shut down when they get hot (forget using this on an outdoor gig).

Oh, and the $375 price tag. Ouch!

Re: Blues Saraceno Fuzz Pedal

I'm pretty happy with the fuzz pedal I have on my board, now. I got one of those T.Rex Mudhoney OD/Fuzz pedals. It's great! The funny thing is how differently fuzz's sound, depending on the amp, or even the amount of gain you use on your amp.
The Mudhoney probably sounds best on a plexi type gain, but it's so sick that it swells and sustains on held notes, but gets corpulent and blatty on notes where you really dig in too hard. Kinda like Hendrix playing his guitar and fuzz into Iommi's rig.

Re: Blues Saraceno Fuzz Pedal

I'll have to check out the Mudhoney. Those T.Rex effects are pretty nice.

... but this Afro Fuzz...

This thing is insane in terms of how many tones it can generate. I'm seriously thinking of plunking down the cash for one.

Re: Blues Saraceno Fuzz Pedal

There are a couple of Fuzz pedals out there that acknowledge the Germanium's sensitivity to temperature. The first one to do it was Analogman with his Sun Face fuzz pedal that has a "Sun Dial" knob to find that sweet spot based on the temp! Prety slick. Keeley's fuzz has something similar but Analog Mike is the man!

As far as "non-clone" Fuzz I was looking at Zvex' Fuzz Factory. That thing is amazing! You guys should check out the demo video he has on his website... AWESOME! So for me it's down to those two. The Afro Fuzz looks badass, but there's not enough of them around to find one cheap.

Re: Blues Saraceno Fuzz Pedal

Evan, any chance of you trading him a bunch of Duncans for one of his AfroFuzz's?
I know he's not the one making them, but he's probably got a bunch he got free.

Re: Blues Saraceno Fuzz Pedal

I'd want to see the inside of that pedal before dropping that kind of cash...it's probably just a modded Fuzz Face with a note inside that says "lol owned." :laugh2:

Re: Blues Saraceno Fuzz Pedal

If it was $200, I'd consider it, but Jeez, I can practically buy a used 59 bassman for that much! I saw the guy's website, who makes these Afrofuzz's, and it looks like he'd tweak it any way you want. Maybe Silicon, instead of Germanium?

Re: Blues Saraceno Fuzz Pedal

I don't have the Afro Fuzz pedal, but I did buy a Germanium Boy boost pedal from Blues' dad, and it's a quality pedal with tons of tone options. Right now Alex is offering the Afro Fuzz and the Germanium Boy pedals on Blues' site for the same price as the auction. If your interested, skip the middle man and go straight to the source. I can say that I'm very pleased with my dealings with Mr. Saraceno.

What guy? Alex Saraceno or the guy selling them on eBay?

Re: Blues Saraceno Fuzz Pedal

Alex Saraceno, I think. I went to his site, and looked for more info.
Like Evan, I'd like to have one, but high priced fuzz's are not in my immediate budget.
I felt like I was spending quite a bit on the Mudhoney, for $200 + tax.

Re: Blues Saraceno Fuzz Pedal

I'm not aware of any other fuzz pedal that allows you to tweak the frequency like that. Does anyone else know of one? I think Alex Saraceno might be on to the ultimate fuzz pedal...

Re: Blues Saraceno Fuzz Pedal

I agree with Evan on the frequency options. Like I said before, I have the Germanium Boy booster pedal and not the Afro Fuzz, but it too has the frequency choice option making it one of the most versatile booster pedals I've ever tried. Not only can I dial in my gain of choice but what frequency that works best for individual guitars and amps. I'm sure the Afro Fuzz is equally as usable and veratile. I trust the Saraceno's when it comes to tone. The Blues Trembucker being one of my favorite pickups of all time.
