Let's see those rigs! How did you guys settle down into using the equipment you use now for blues?

Am dlx surfer strat w/ 12's, 63 transitional blackface bandmaster w/ mercury magnetics fat core bassman OT, Birch 1x15 cabinet loaded with an original reconed JBL d130f. I use my Vox v847 wah along with my spina TS9 occasionally. My blues style is like a cross between SRV, Allman bros., clapton, and buddy guy.

Re: Bluesmen! What's your rig!

I'm gonna get LAMBASTED but man my blues rig is

American Strat or Gibson Les Paul

into Ernie Ball volume, dunlop rotovibe, teese wizard wah, spina modded sparkle drive, spina modded ts9, boss tu-2 tuner, into my Mesa/Boogie Rectoverb

Yeah I know, mesa isn't known for their blues stuff, but man this one does it....

Think Doyle Bramhall, ZZ Top, SRV, Robben Ford, etc...that's my preferred blues style...along with the bluesy jimi hendrix stuff...but don't get me wrong, I do a lot of traditional blues stuff too...being from where I am from, you have to

Re: Bluesmen! What's your rig!

i have everything but decided on my full rig yet but i am beyond happy with my current setup, i am using a Godin LG signature, with a custom custom bridge, and a jazz2, for an amp i am using a 1964 silvertone 1484 60watt into a 2x12 cab, and sometimes for lead boosts i use a big muff USA. For my style, somewhere between allman brothers, howlin wolf, and a fair bit of blues-ish rock(think warren haynes) i am not a full out blues man but im on my way.

My ideal setup would be a fender 1960 relic stratocaster in daphne blue with a tweed fender bassman for an amp, and not quite sure on the pup's for the strat, but i dont have it yet so......

Re: Bluesmen! What's your rig!

Mainly I use Stratocasters W/t a APS-II (neck) SSL-1 (mid) Lil'59er (bridge)
But I also sometimes use my Tele, 335, Firebird, Flying V or 67' melody maker
for Slide. My main Blues amp is my 79' Princeton reverb (Blackfaced) I just
recapped it all with orange drops, New Filter cap, Phase Inverter mod for
more headroom,New JJ 6V6s. It has all N.O.S. preamp tubes (5751 in V1)
and a new Weber Cali series 10" speaker. The amp is super Dynamic now!!
It will go from singing to screaming Just from your picking attack. I used to
use a TS-9 with this amp...Now it does it's own tube Screaming.

You're absolutely right there man, I'm mainly a blues guy and that amp SMOKES for it. It can handle many styles with flying colors.

Re: Bluesmen! What's your rig!

Depends on the kind of "blues" I feel like playing. If it's rock influenced blues like Allmans, ZZ, Led Zeppelin etc...I've got a huge (to me) rig with a Line 6 Vetta stack and a Crate Blue Voodoo stack run together with a Morley A/B stereo box (amp A or B or both at the same time). The cabs for the Vetta are Hughes & Kettners loaded with the G12H80 Celestions and the cabs for the Crate are a slant stock BV and an Avatar straight loaded with V30's & G12H30's. All speakers are the hellatone models.

For more straight up blues I've currently got a 65 BF champ and a Univox U45B that I also use the Morley A/B with.

Got a Marshall Supa Fuzz, modded brown sound TS-7 and a Vox wah.

75 LP Black Beauty (Antiquities), 72 cherry sunburst LP deluxe with a JB in the bridge (no, I didn't do it), 77 Gibson doubleneck with ants & Seths (ants in the 12, Seths in the six), 68 Epiphone Casino (original P-90 neck, JB bridge), couple of strats, couple of student model Fenders.

No, I'm not loaded. Just old and accumulated most of this stuff over the years. :smoker: :usa2: :beerchug: :beerchug:

Re: Bluesmen! What's your rig!

I know exactly what i want for my rig, but i need a $1000 first. :)
I Like using my strat w/ surfers, Id like to get a Deluxe Reverb and get a TS9, a Dallas Arbiter, and a Vox 847.

Re: Bluesmen! What's your rig!

Right now, Im using a GandL Legacy Special, CS-3 Compressor, TS9DLX, and DS-1 to boost for solo's. All into a crate tube amp, with quadraverb and holier grail reverb in the loop. For how I loop things now, check out "New Parallel Secret" thread for the description.

Yah Yah, crate isnt exactly known for its blues tone amps, but man, this ones got some sweet tones to it, very Classic 50esque tones.

Re: Bluesmen! What's your rig!

i use my POD 2.0 through the Atomic... usuallyset to a plexi throught a 4x12 w/ V30's, or a Mesa Mark IIc+ through the same cab. i use the Hubmuber from Hell in my Warmoth Strat, and the wah on my line 6 floorboard. with those 2 amp models, i can get nice warm cleans to smooth syrupy od to rude and gritty crunch. its great.

Re: Bluesmen! What's your rig!

Don Grosh Bent Top Custom to a Clay Jones Overdrive and Pro Analog Dual Drive to my Fender '70 Vibrolux Reverb... eat your heart out :p

Re: Bluesmen! What's your rig!

'66 Gibson SG Standard with Antiquity humbuckers -> Monster Cable -> Fender Blues Junior

Re: Bluesmen! What's your rig!

It's not great but it works... I plug my Ibanez (in sig) straight into the amp (in my sig). It's a les paul doublecut copy. I use a split '59 neck exclusively. (thinking about a phat cat n/seth b combo) My amp is an OLD tweed Classic 30, the JJ blues set of tubes, and I have a 1x12 cab for a Jensen c12n (no speaker in the amp).

*my dream rig*
A good strat with good low output pickups - banzai fireball - deluxe reverb with JJs into a 1x15 cab with a JBL. (sort of like a deluxe reverb/vibroverb hybrid) Probably wouldn't use the pedal much though...

Re: Bluesmen! What's your rig!

for blues there are a few.
i use one of two amps, either a modded blues jr that also has a g12m speaker and a good set of tubes (v1-jj ecc83 v2-chinese 12ax7 v3-jan/phillips 12at7, jj el84's) or a modded tweed bassman ltd ri with four jensen p10r speakers (v1-5751 v2-telefunkin 12ax7 v3- either a jan/phillips 12at7 or a mullard ecc83, a rca 5ar4 recto, some chinese 6l6 with blue glass??) with a 6k6 loaded fender reverb ri

for small clubs i turn the jr all the way up either with the greenback or a 2x12 vibro king cab with a g12h and v30 depending on how much volume i can use without getting barked at. for places that wont cut it the bassman comes out. if im running the amp clean and using pedals ill use the 12at7 in the pi and maybe a lower voltage recto tube, i keep an rca 5y3 in the back with the extra preamp tube. if i can crank it (the prefered method) ill put the hotter pi tube and recto tube in to get more power tube saturation and overall gain.

for pedals i use a boss tuner and if i need to use overdrives ill use a duncan pup booster or boss sd1 with either a visual sound rt66, vox valvetone, or voodoo lab super fuzz

for guitars i usually use an alder/rw strat with a set of surfers with the custom bridge and a callaham block or a hamer daytona with aps/aps/twangbanger set or a swamp ash/rw hardtail strat with texas hots with the custom bridge (reverse slant).

Re: Bluesmen! What's your rig!

godin plugged straight into the crate....the 59 + the tube amp....works for me...gandlman is right onthe amp....

Re: Bluesmen! What's your rig!

For playing quietly I like my Strat or Tele through a Fender Deluxe Reverb or tweed Deluxe.

For playing loudly I like Strat, Tele or Les Paul through my Fender Super Reverb.

I can't get a clean enough rythym tone from my Les Paul through the smaller amps, but through the Super Reverb it is awesome.

Re: Bluesmen! What's your rig!

Usually my LP or SG->guitarcable->amp. However, since getting the Vox Tonelab, it's Guitar->cable->Tonelab->cable->amp->great tone!

Lately I've been using my Strat more, but I'm basically a humbucker guy.

Ocassionally, I use my mandolin, and in the old days, acoustic for slide and open tuning.
