Just out of pure curiosity... and a future reference to my Warmoth-caster, what combo of body and pickups would you personally choose? Why?

Assume that this is gonna be a superstrat type with a Floyd or a Wilkinson, HH pickups. Maple neck/Rosewood board.

:22:

Re: Body/Pickup combos.... you pick!

mahogany with the jb/jazz would be cool...but you might want to try an alnico 2 pro in the neck with the jb bridge...it's definitely a winning combo in my i1...!

Re: Body/Pickup combos.... you pick!

the mahogany body will add thump while the jb/jazz will add the sizzle... perfect!

Re: Body/Pickup combos.... you pick!

I'm seeing a lot more votes than I am hearing opinions here... come on guys ;)

Re: Body/Pickup combos.... you pick!

ok, I won't vote...but here is my opinion :laugh2: ...

Alder and Duncans...Mahognay is a very cool wood, and sounds very good...but when it is a guitar with a whammy...I just prefer an alder or ash body...plus...a Fender style guitar with a JB/Jazz combo is proven tone pot...this has been seen and done time and time again...

Re: Body/Pickup combos.... you pick!

PS...I am also doing a Warmoth-caster...not buckers but singles...while doing planning for this guitar I will tell you one more thing...a Wilkinson will sound far better that a Floyd...a 6 hole vintage trem will sound better still than the wilkinson, but a Floyd sounds real bad...that said, If you want a floyd, I have one I'll sell you :laugh2: :offtopic:  :smack: ...

Re: Body/Pickup combos.... you pick!

I actually have a '92 MIA FR classic strat that has a real OFR bridge in in and it's outstanding, thank you very much :fing25: You're thinking of cheap-sh*t Ibenhad copies of Floyds and that Liscensed sh*t.

easy bro...I didn't mean to upset you...truth is that a Floyd does have less sustain and bottom end that a wilkinson and a wilkinson has less that a vintage trem...

It's all good bro I'm just jokin around LOL. I've actually learned trick with my Floyd so that i can get more tonal mileage out of it than you would think. Its true about the tonal diffs and I can hear the diff between that and a Wilkie and a vintage but everythings a compromise, yannow?

Truth to be told only real OFRs are worth playing to me. They sound the best and hold tuning like a rock. Period. And I use them a lot so its not just a white elephant sitting there but I go hardtail or blocked if I'm not gonna use a trem that day.

I've heard an alder-bodied strat with a jazz and JB set and i almost wet myself when i heard the clean tones... but the Evos in an alder body have got undeniable power... Vai's signature Jem sounds great with evos in an alder body but thru his rig the bright nature of the pickups is tamed somewhat. I tried that Jem in a MESA Rectoverb combo once and it had nice clear mids, tight bass, but the highs were bright enough to shatter glass with the treble and presence up. :eyecrazy:

i chose mahogany with jb/jazz because that's the only one i have experience with (mahogany warmoth mockinbird body) and it sounds fantastic.

however, i took the a5 magnet out of the jazz and put in an a2 to cut down the treble and warm it up a bit.

I'd go with Alder and JB ... but that's based on my personal preferences (and lets face it ... on of my fav combos is alder with the Full Shred)
