Bogner Duende Opinions

What can you tell me about the Duende? I wanna know if it has enough clean headroom to keep up with a band and how well it can handle the average gig.

Re: Bogner Duende Opinions

With the 15w one, you have to expect some clipping on the clean channel by the time you cut through a loud drummer. With the 30w one, there'll probably be some "hair" on it when competing with a loud drummer. It all depends on how much headroom you need on the cleans. If set right, you should be able to cut just fine in the band mix with a 15w amp.

Re: Bogner Duende Opinions

They are a 15 or 30 watt amp and hae the headroom of any 15 or 30 watt amps so they will break up fairly early on the clean channel but IMHO a Duende should be able to do band work just fine unless it's a huge band or unless the drummer just doesn't get it...

Re: Bogner Duende Opinions

Also, the Duende makes the most of its wattage with an efficient speaker and a oversized cabinet. Out of my boss' room full of booteek amps, I like his Duende the best. I wish I could afford to buy it.

Re: Bogner Duende Opinions

The 15w was what I was talking about. I like the 6V6 sound. I don't care about a little breakup or clipping because I'm not trying to be Joe Pass here or anything. I don't expect pristine cleans at band volumes from a 15w amp, but enough headroom for passable clean tones.

I hear the reverb never shuts off completely and the only option is disconnecting the reverb unit. They also say the 6L6 version loses some of its mojo. What can you tell me about these things?

What do you mean "doesn't get it"? Doesn't get what?

Re: Bogner Duende Opinions

im assuming that he means the drummer is a cromagnon knuckle dragging tree trunk swinging basher and doesnt play with finesse.

a 15w amp with a loud speaker should be fine in most situations as long as you arent playing super heavy distorted metal or really clean

Re: Bogner Duende Opinions

jeremy's got it...I was drummer for several years before I played guitar and I played live gigs with guys using TINY amps...Vibro Champs in stereo and Princeton reverbs...never had issues but the drummer has to understand where max volume is and play from there which, sad to say is tough for most drummers out there.

Re: Bogner Duende Opinions

I've gigged a Duende backing a singer-songwriter whose onstage volume was very low and with the overdrive channel wide open as part of a stereo rig at a theatre gig for my rock band (very loud drummer). In the latter context I found that I could get a decent cleanish tone by rolling the volume on my guitar back during quieter passages.

I'd say it has a taste more headroom than comparable 15w amps, due to the largish, well built cabinet, the G12H30 and the fact that the design is fixed bias. But we're not talking much. As the other guys have mentioned: much will depend on your gigging circumstances and drummer's dynamic range.

It's also worth noting that it has a 15w's amount of bottom end. It sounds great in front of a mic through a PA, but the 1x12 6V6 version doesn't have massive bottom end feel onstage. Of course you could extend this for live by pairing it with a larger cabinet.
