Bogner Shiva tube questions

Hey guys.
Let's say you need to replace the power tubes in the Shiva, and you go with the same Svetlana tubes. Is there a certain rating/grade that you need, or will any pair of Svetlana tubes be alright? If you need to bias again, how do you know what to bias them at?

What would be the easiest route that does'nt need any re-bias or anything special?

Thanks!

Re: Bogner Shiva tube questions

Replacing them with Svetlanas from ARS Tubes (ironically across the street from my work). When I got my XTC, it had well worn original Svets, but I replaced them with JJ EL-34's. I like the sound of JJ's in Bogners, and didn't want to experiment with E-34L's, because it definitely doesn't need any more headroom or volume. I use GT12AX7C's in all the gain positions, and JJ ECC83's in the PI, FX, and clean channel position. JJ EL-34's. To me, the amp sounds best with that combination. When these tubes wear out, I'll probably replace them with the same thing.

I have some JJ EL34s and E34Ls lying around
would they be good in my Shiva?

Do tell!

Re: Bogner Shiva tube questions

Winged C EL-34 Svetlanas and Shuguang 9th gen Chinese preamp tubes work for me. I'd get a Weber BiasRite if you're serious about biasing your own amplifier (https://taweber.powweb.com/biasrite/br_page.htm). My Shiva is biased a little hot... I think 38mA. Too cold and it sounds dull, too hot and it mushes out.

Reinhold specifically recommends Svets for the power amp section because they handle the juice that the amp puts out. Chinese pres and Svet power tubes sound great in Bogners, so why even bother messing with anything else? I've tried JJs in different spots in different amplifiers and all their preamp tubes seem to make my amps sound duller, I could only really see them as working in a PI spot or something like the reverb tube spot.

So if I got one of those Weber Bias Rites, I'd just plug it in like it shows on his site, adjust the bias of the new tubes, and that's it?

Where is the bias adjustment located in the Shiva?

With the BiasRite, it's pretty much that simple. You plug in the Bias Rite into the respective amp socket and then plug your tubes into the Bias Rite. You check the output voltage and then you use the online calculator to figure out what settings you should bias your amp at. It's been over 5 months since I've replaced my tubes, so I can't remember where exactly the bias pot is, but I remember it was painfully easy to spot when I looked for it. With my Shiva, I think 38 mA per tube is about right.

Awesome, thanks for the info!
Do you happen to know what the Shiva's plate voltage is?
