I believe your current amp should also be a huge factor dude, maybe there are but it's got a lot to do with the amp you'll eventually be plugging it in to.

Re: Bogner XTC in a box?

There are a number of amazing high gain pedals out there, take your pick: Mosferatu, Blackstone, MJM stuff, Landgraff DO (your best bet for a killer lead tone) etc.

From what I've read the Stephenson Stage Hog is one of the most versatile OD/Dist. pedals on the planet and it may be a possibility.

Either way, I highly doubt anything is going to nail every nuance of the tone you get from the red channel on a Bogner XTC, that's where they reign folks. Bogner may not have the best cleans, but distortion, they're the kings.

Re: Bogner XTC in a box?

i just got a gnx4, and i'm not saying that you can get the tone of a bogner xtc out of it, but i think that thing sounds good. i hated modeling pedals, until i got one.

Re: Bogner XTC in a box?

Maybe the new Egnater/Randall XTC module can come close but I can't think of a pedal that sounds anything like it. Can't beat the real thing ;)

That is what I am waiting for. Plus I am going to send it to Bruce and Frank for them to mod it if need be. The work they have done for me so far has been amazing.

I can't wait to try it either, it'll be fun to see how close they can get.
I played the Recto and Blackface module in a store but I haven't played the real thing so I couldn't make a comparison. Both sounded pretty good though.

Re: Bogner XTC in a box?

Maybe the sound, but probably not the feel... Ecstacy 101B models have this really "elastic" feel that seems to facilitate more dynamic playing. It's like a "fast, elastic" feel as opposed to a "stiff, slow" feel.

Still, I am anxious to see how it sounds. Many people have been asking for it, so they know there are high expectations. Plus, I believe Bruce is back working with Randall again, so it will be done right. We'll see.

Re: Bogner XTC in a box?

It's hard to pinpoint the exact Ecstasy Red Channel sound, because you can dial it so many ways, but essentially, it's a highgain Marshall tone with bigger lows, denser mids and more growl......kinda like stereo Marshalls.

Honestly, I practice more on my Vox AD60 modeling amp, just for volume issues at home. I've found that I can get good Bogner tones out of it by using the Rectifier model along with an OD model that adds more growl. And keep the mids up.
Even though the Bogner sounds more Marshall-like, it still has that Rectifier type density, so Rec models on Line 6 and Vox are closer than the British settings.
As far as pedals, I wish Bogner would come out with one, but you can get a similar effect by using the best OD you can find, plugged into a Marshall. The banzaieffects.com Fireball (like Marin owns) and the Coldfusion are both nice OD's.
There's so many good one's out there...take your pick.

Hey GJ,

do you think I would need to get a Bogner to have an amp sound which would sound like my Banzai Fireball? :)

I don't dare even think of the $$$$ needed :smack:
