one book that really helped me in changing the way i looked at the guitar, was planetalk, evryone should give it a look..

'Jazz Guitar Technique' and 'Jazz Guitar Structures' by Mike Green helped me understand chords, melody, and how to approach a solo. I think that they were great . . .
