Boos TU-2 gone Microphonic

Has anyone here experienced a TU-2 tuner pedal go completely microphonic, where any slight tap to the pedal chassis comes through the amp?

Well I thought that was the extent of it, but after pulling it out, I realized that it was not only microphonic itself, but it was also causing the guitar body to be microphonic as well... where just touching the stings would come through the amp in a big sorta way.... Took me a while to notice cause I use an ISP decimator in my loop which keeps things quiet when I am not playing.

I have owned almost every Boss pedal at one time or another and only had one other go bad and that was due to it getting wet, so I am surprised to see the tu-2 acting up. I replaced it with a hardwire tuner, so I am no in a hurray to get it fixed, but was just wondering if this is some kind of known defect that Boss would fix at low or no charge..

not a tu-2, but either a ge-7 or ce-3. i'm assuming it's the EQ, but i'm not sure because they're both hooked together with an ernie ball male/male connector. i've been too lazy to diagnose it since i don't play live or anything like that.

Re: Boos TU-2 gone Microphonic

ive had my tu2 forever and it gets treated like crap. banged around loose in a bag with all sorts of other hard things, used to tilt back amps, as a door jam etc... ive even thrown it at a drummer. never had any issues with it.

i think you just got a dud. if it was under warranty then i think boss would fix it (read as give you another one)

I am the original owner. It looks new, but it has been all over the place with me, and I only recently acquired a clean power source for my front of amp pedal board. Other than power, it has been treated really well. I will call Boss and see what options I have.

Re: Boos TU-2 gone Microphonic

Is it microphonic on its own or only with other pedals/junk in the chain?

I've had experiences with microphonic pedals... some of them boss... and it can be caused by having voltage on the output, some sort of ground potential. The power supply can play a role in that too.

Re: Boos TU-2 gone Microphonic

Did you try another power supply? I was having some issues with my 1spot causing some weird issues before it died.

Re: Boos TU-2 gone Microphonic

My Boss GE7 went microphonic. Reaplced it with a MXR eq pedal...

My TU2 and other Boss pedals work just fine.

Sounds like its time to get a Polytune... :scratchch

Check your power supply. I had some noise in my signal chain and took me forever to figure out it was my 1 Spot that caused the noise...

Re: Boos TU-2 gone Microphonic

you may want to check all your cables, I've found a few that were more microphone than others.

Hmm.... I didn't try it on it's own, Every other pedal on my board is true bypass.... I have the
BBE Wah --> Tu2--> MXR Super Comp --> MXR Micro Amp --> Coffin Blood Drive (usually off) --> amp

At first I thought it was the power so I went and added a BBE Supa Charger which has isolated grounds. Doesn't matter if I use a Boss PSA, The Supa Charger or anything else. The Supa Charger is coming off of a Furman Rack Mount Power Conditioner, and plugging into a wall outlet makes no difference wither. Taking the Wah out makes no difference either.

All the power cables were replaced when I added the Supa Charger. I have switched around the patch cables and with the Hardwire tuner in the same spot I have zero problems. The hardwire will probably stay no matter what cause it has a true bypass when not tuning. I had also considered using an ABY for tuning but no guarantee that would eliminate the noise and adding an additional component would add complexity and take up more space on my board.

Re: Boos TU-2 gone Microphonic

Boss said to send it to them. It is still covered for parts or replacement. I don't think it is covered for labor so we will see what happens. I own the pedal for a little over four years and it is covered for 5. Wouldn't be heart broken if they decided to ship me back a TU-3... :)
