Boss CE-5 Chorus Ensemble Issue

I have an older Boss CE5 and the Filter concentric pot control is really stiff. It still turns and affects sound, however it appears to have really seized up over time.

I did get a quote to replace it for £40, but seems to be around what they go for used anyway so may as well try and fix it.

So question is, what do I need to try and re-lubricate it? And do the pot knobs just pull off? Or do I need to crack it open and go at it from the under side?

ps, posted on another forum for the eagle-eyed among you.

Re: Boss CE-5 Chorus Ensemble Issue

I would go ahead and pull the board so you can really get at the pot. Then I would blow out any accumilated dirt/dust with compressed or canned air, then work it over really well with contact cleaner (spray it in there while turning the pots, DeOxIt is a good cleaner). Then lube it. There are some lubes on the market designed for pots, but alot of guys just use plain ol' WD-40.

And I would go ahead and do all the pots while I had the board out. Oh and go easy with the sticky one, don't wanna twist the shaft off.

Are you sure that the problem is not a bent pot shaft? A knock to the pedal might be enough to leave the lower plastic knob rubbing against the metal case of the pedal.

I'm not trying to be a know it all,
WD 40 isn't good for electrical
use. It will attract and hold onto
dust and dirt.
