Boss GT-8 and Amp channel switching

I'm in the process of selling one of my guitars and with the money from it i want some kind of multi effect setup to go with my Engl Sovereign, mainly for modulation and time based effects not really for amp modeling. And swichting the amp using the mfx unit would be great since i otherwise i'd be tapdancing all the time.

Going full midi is more than i want to spend right now(the midi interface for the sovereign alone is 200€ and i'd still need a midi-footswitch and the mfx unit), so i think a Boss GT-8 would be the best choice. Put it in the loop, use the modulation effects and such and if my amp screws up i can use it a s a full backup going straight into the board with amp simulation and all that.

The GT-8 has a single amp control jack that's obviously mono since it can only do one funtion.
The engl sovereing has a stereo switching jack for switching the main channels(clean/crunch + soft lead/heavy lead) on the mono terminal and between clean and crunch(mode 1 and two of main channel 1) on the stereo terminal.
Since i barely use crunch and soft lead i could set the amp up for clean on main channel1 and heavy lead on main channel 2 and then switch using the mono jack from the GT-8. As i see it the clean/crunch switching shouldn't be affected since it won't be in the circuit when using a mono jack. I could still switch on crunch and soft lead by hand but for live use i don't need them anyway.
Anyone else except myself thinks that this should work?

Re: Boss GT-8 and Amp channel switching

I suggest you to go to the GT8 Forum and read about the concept of the GT8's 4-lead wiring.

Re: Boss GT-8 and Amp channel switching

The four channel wiring is a great idea but i'll still need to switch the amp itself and i haven't found an answer if it could work the way i'm thinking

Re: Boss GT-8 and Amp channel switching

I have a Behringer V-Amp L112, which is a programmable amp modeling amp combo. I use the GT8 as the floorpedal that controls everything. Some presets are all GT8, others all V-Amp, and some are a blend. All the possibilities at your disposal are mind-blowing, and even after a year of constant use, I've barely scratched the surface.

I'm NOT a tube freak, however the most recourring question I get after a show is: Is that a valve amp?

Tubes sound great, we all know that. But good programming in effect/amp modeling helps in closing the gap.
