hey guys, as u know i play metal, and i jsut got a Boss NS-2 and i have the settings as Threshhold at about 3 oclock, decay at about 9 oclock, and i have it on the Mute setting...amd i doing this wrong, are there better settings for this, i am trying to cut my feedback on a heavily distorted guitar. this does it, but i wanna make sure i am doing it properly...that and is it better running it through my effects loop...and if so HOW DO I DO IT...the directions w/ it are SOOOOO confusing..or i am stupid lol...thanks

Turn to reduction mode, turn decay to zero, threshold to 10. That's the way I do it. Works very well, gets that noise out of there.

Alright, I'll explain this again. In addition to a guitar cable, you'll need three one foot long cables or so.

Plug your guitar into the NS-2.
Plug the NS-2's output into your XXL's effects loop return.
Plug your XXL's effects loop send to the NS-2's loops return.
Plug the NS-2's send into the amps input.

This puts the whole preamp in the NS-2's loop, which lets it cut down on noise, hiss, feedback, what have you, a ton better.

Set decay at zero, and set it to reduction mode. On mute mode, it just reduces noise when off, and mutes the signal when on.

Has anyone here noticed a damping effect on the highs and upper mids of their sound when they use their NS-2? When I loop mine in the manner deadskinslayer outlined aboved, it removes alot the upper frequency range. This is a good and bad thing for me at the same time. Good as in it removes a lot of the harsh shrillyness of my amp which is particularly bright and making it overall smoother. Bad in that makes it less lively and present.

i tried what dead skin slayer said, but it completely eats up my overtones, bends, and certain hammer-on/pull-offs. it cuts out the noise but also cuts out all those things, my overtones almost immediatly fade out, bends are cut short, and when im soloing and i do light hammer-on/pull-offs that normally sound fine even though i dont really pound on the strings they are quickly eliminated as well... so i went back to jsut plugging my guitar into it...is there any way to cut out the noise of my amp while still having bends, overtones, and other things still audible???

Well how high do you have the threshold set? When I have it like that, I have the threshold at 4 or 5.

o ok, i have the threshold at about 3 oclock and the decay at about 9 oclock, if i put the threshold at 4 or 5 will the feedback still be eliminated?

It should, try it out. Start with the threshold on 0, and go up from there. Always keep the decay on minimum.
