Boss SD1

Hi Does anyone have or have compared Boss SD1 and Caline Big Orange pedals. What is the difference between them? Thank you regards

The Caline Big Orange is an Xotic BB clone, right?

The DS1 can be used as a distortion but there are generally other pedals for that. Where I’ve seen a DS-1 do well is to push further a tube amp at breakup.

The BB is generally more flexible. You can use it as a clean boost or from mild to higher gain. The EQ is also pretty flexible.

Thank you.Well need OD because want put front THR10x which have gain that power him.
Distorzion is maybe too much because has got two gain and that is not good I think

The SD-1 and DS-1 are two different pedals and circuits. You're still correct on the rest though. ;)

Lol so sorry. Dyslexia attack. I read DS-1 somehow.

Yes, the SD-1 is not a distortion lol. Funnily enough, I do see the SD-1 also better pushing an amp at breakup.

@sdelac what kind of music do you play? And how do you plan to use the pedal?

Hey! I've never heard of the Caline, however I recorded a demo of the SD-1 with a variety of guitars and amps. Hopefully you'll be able to figure out if it's what you're looking for :)

Agreed, The SD-1 is fantastic at pushing an amp over the edge. The DS-1 is good for that too but the current revisions of it require a little modification to sound anywhere decent enough. A stock SD-1 is solid right out of the box.

SD-1 is great for pushing tube amps, run the gain low, the output kinda high, and adjust the tone to taste.

You're using a digital amp, so you don't want to overload the input. Try the same settings, but don't run the output too high.

No price is good but think that catch yamaha editor and play with him.Pedal is good only with amp that push sound better higher.
thank you

If you record a DI with a guitar with hot pickups and a DI from an SD-1, you'd actually see the SD-1 with the output cranked puts out less juice. That has always been my gripe with TS-type pedals. They don't really boost. They just clip and compress. At least not with modern high output pickups.

Steve Via used the DS1 for a while. Seeing Steve Via went to Berklee, the first thing every Berklee guitarist does is buy a DS1. You can find them used for pennies at the music store across the street from the school. The last time I was in there, they had some going for $19.

Vai used a SD-1 and Dist+ on P&W (that's what I remember, he went through what he used in the tab/music book, I'll look it up later), he has also used a TS9, DS-1, and Rat, usually with the Keeley mods, and gain low, output high to push an already gainy amp.

Back in the day TS9s could be had cheap, I remember buying one for $35, I think I sold it to another guy for $25 or something.

The cool thing about the SD-1 over the TS s the assymetrical clipping, it adds more even order harmonics.

Vai eventually just started using the DS-1 only into the Fender side of his rig. His Carvin amps were boosted with a regular ts.

Using my SD-1 to push my TT-Mayhem. For when I want a different flavor to the MT-2.

Wasn't Vai's Gemini Pedal basically a TS9 into a DS-1? I thought that was his "most" used combo.
