Boss WL-20 Wireless Units Review

So if you were not aware, Boss makes a Bluetooth (or whatever) wireless unit for a buck seventy-nine or so.

I got a pair to use and they were fantastic!
- Charged overnight w/ USB
- Tested for an hour around the house
- No latency

Played live; Had one shaky moment when bass player (also wireless next to me) had a wireless too. I paired them on stage and done! My only issue was it stuck down a bit, so it could cause problems swinging guitar around/posing etc. I didn't have any though.

I have one, too. Used for a dozen gigs so far, and I am very happy with it.

LOL! That's sort of the reason I bought a wireless myself. EVERY. DAMN. GIG. my bass player would step on my chord and I'd have to either kick him in the shins in order to get hime to move his feet or stand up close and risk the dreaded bass-head-to-the-face. Wireless seemed cheaper and eaiser than dental surgery, so went with the former.

I've been using a Shure digital system with a bodypack and cable. That thing looks freakin sweet though!

The range is about 60 feet or so, line of sight. A charge lasts about 10 hours, and it takes about an hour to fully charge. I leave mine plugged into the guitar between sets.

A night might be 5 hours, so leaving it plugged into the guitar and pedal is comfortable.

Haven't recharged yet. Want to "run it down" just to see.

Hmm. That's not amazing for range. I usually take my guitar with me off stage and make a grand entrance.

The stages I am on are not that big. I was never one of those 'roam around the audience' type of players.

Wow that 9v pedalboard set would be the ticket for me, especially for only $20 more, plus you get 10' more range he said.

I wonder about actives though. He said the L version was for low impedance, so you need seperate sets for actives and passives?
The pedalboard 9v-charging setup might only work with passives then. (?) (since it doesn't have the L for low)

I have several of each (active and passive), so I hate to need two different sets. Too bad the pedalboard version doesn't have an impedance switch.

Same concept as the Nux B2 Digital Wireless. Same range too.

I used to have a wireless but sold it last year when I wasn't doing anything. I might get another one. This style interests me due to the simplicity. I can plug the receiver in to the side of my JC95 and not have to worry about something else on the floor out front. My only concern with the Boss is the plug doesn't swivel so it will stick out bad on my top jack guitars and bass.

That Nux seems pretty sweet. Reminds me of the Xvive U2, but slightly more appealing design.

Feeds off of standard 9v PSU, but its quite thirsty, I think 200 mA or something. Also takes up pedal board space, so not really plug-and-play as the Nux system.

Update - Another gig with the WL-20's. Worked great. AT the end of the night I did go wander around the place as it was pretty thin by 1am. Sounded fantastic. No static/breakup or anything. Really liking these. So far no protrusion problems either. worked great in my Jackson King V also....

Hey Ace, did you ever try the Shure DLX with the pedalboard receiver and body pack on your wireless quest?

I love mine but I DO like to go out into the crowd and have had some minor issues in a packed club. Any idea how the Boss one compares?

I would consider this, even as a bedroom player. I’ve always wanted to walk around the apartment or out into the hallway to hear how loud it is.

Thing I learned tonight is that they don't hold a charge for 2 weeks without using them...
I charged them the day after the last gig I used them (2 weeks?) and didn't check them the night before the show. They died halfway into the 1st set. I had a cord handy, and the silence seemed like 15 minutes, but was closer to 20 seconds. So, charge them up the night before.
