Bought a 7

So I finally gave in and pulled the trigger on a carvin dc727. I can't wait it's supposed to show up friday. It's deep triple step blue with a quilt top, ss frets, abalone inlays, FR, and it's mahogany. The plan is to swap out the stock pups for most likely some blackouts. Anyways, here's some pics:

Re: Bought a 7

Carvin 7s are seriously sexy and great players. Only things that bother me with them are the carvin pups and the fact that they don't put locknuts on FR-guitars. otherwise this looks killer and i hope you like it.

Re: Bought a 7

Erm, of course they put locking nuts on their FR guitars.
It's just that they also offer the ability to NOT install a locking nut but instead a graphite nut (which, with the Sperzels and a good setup can hold its' tuning just fine unless you start going crazy with it ;))

BTW, STUNNING, I love it man.
I say give the stock pus a chance, in my experience while the Carvin pus might not be SDs they still are much better than most other stock pus I've tried from other companies :)

Re: Bought a 7

Why do the pups have 12 pole-pieces? I'm guessing it's a similar idea to P-Bass pickups? Beautiful guitar though.

It's supposed to prevent drop off when you're bending strings away from their pole pieces.

As far as the stock pups go, I'm gonna try em out first, but I pretty much know they're not gonna work. This guitar is gonna be a metal guitar and the stock pups don't do well with heavy gain and whatnot. My other carvin is like that, I'm probly swapping the bridge bucker on that one too.

Sweet Blue.

My problem with Carvin 7s is the use of a licensed Floyd rather than an actual OFR7.

i cant bond with OFRs' . I like the JT-580 likes' in Meds' axe.. so much so I removed a vintage OFR and stuck a Liscenced on it. Has to do with when iM palm muteing, it sends the fine tuners outta whack cause the edge of my hand rubs them. Stupoid design if you ask me
Thats a gorgeous axe. Love that big fat fingerboard and the monstrous frets!I like the blue.
Its a winner, but im afraid the pups gotta go.No biggie.
Also change out that sucky original block for an aftermarket brass block. Thats a must!

Thanks guys, I'm more than excited to get this thing here. It should be here sometime tomorrow. I just hope it shows up before I go to work.

I thought you were a big fan of carvins pups Jerry. After all, you did encourage me to keep my dc135 stock.

As far as the floyd goes, I've never owned one before and don't use a lot of trems, so it'll probly be fine for me. I might put a brass block in it like you suggested Jerry. It will be getting a tremol-no ASAP tho, along with one for the wilky on my dc135.

Re: Bought a 7

Cool ax bro! I had a DC 747 hardtail for a while and those will make the $2 K+ Ibanez Universes look like cheap pieces of JUNK in comparison!!
Don't discount the C26 pickups so quickly. I had a Tone Zone 7 Air Norton 7 and a Evo 7 in my 747 and finaly went back to the Carvins in the end. In the mahogany they worked very well for me!! Those C26's in the neck position in particular are incredible sounding pickups clean. They sound almost like an accoustic clean and then will still get sweet smooth bluesy tones crunched!
BTW you won't be alone tomorrow on waiting on a new ax bro!
I have a NOS brand new never sold USA Chicago Custom 1993 Washburn MG 104 arriving from a dealer in Florida tomorrow myself!
Here is mine

That's a nice washburn ascension, post up a review with more pics when you get it in. As soon as I get a chance, I'm gonna fire up the orange and jam the dc727 thru it and see how I like the stock pups. I'm sure they'll sound all right, but I have my doubts about them doing well for bottom heavy riffing with lots of gain.

Re: Bought a 7

Oh my god, I'm in LOVE with that color.
It's called fireburst if I'm not mistaken?
Insane!

BTW, a +1 for the Carvin Floyd.
I know they use quality stuff from the hardware to the freekin' caps so I'm pretty sure it'll be fine.
PLUS, it looks an awful lot like my Gotoh Floyd which IMO is THE best contemporary Floyd (including the OFR which like jerryjg said is a biatch when trying to palm mute :cussing:)

BTW, if you're getting the Tremol-No then I think you might not need the new block.
(unless you're planning to only locking it SOME of the time).
When it's locked it's supposed to be EXACTLY like a hardtail (BUT, I've still to get mine so I can't ascertain it, yet)

Does the brass block make that big a diff? It will be locked most of the time, but the back cover will be off all the time, so an unlock is literally 3 sec away. I don't use a lot of trem stuff, but I hate picking up my LP's and not being able to dive bomb or use trem vibrato after playing my dc135t.

Re: Bought a 7

A brass block (and more so a Big Block) offers a fuller sound and increased sustain as opposed to cheaper alternatives (which usually aren't even pure metal but some questionable mixture of who-knows-what).

However if you have the trem blocked you probably won't notice much of a difference.
Still, it is supposed to improve the tone (which I can semi-confirm since when I replaced my cheap floyd copy for a Gotoh Floyd Rose which has a brass block I did notice a big improvement on the tone and sustain)
