Bought a Boss Power Stack pedal

i have been looking at getting some pedals that will turn the average Blackface Fender clean into a Marshall like sound for a while now... i tried some expensive pedals... i tried the more common ones... ended up liking a Boss Power Stack the best... i'm kind of surprised how well it does the job of adding a scooped heavy distortion with some low end to a very basic clean amp like a 65 Deluxe...

it does that stack distortion sound rather great!

Re: Bought a Boss Power Stack pedal

I had a DRRI that took some Marshall-flavored pedals pretty well. The Guv'nor Plus (GV2) and Radial Tonebone Hot British both worked nicely with it.

Re: Bought a Boss Power Stack pedal

Boss has been hitting home runs lately, what with its Legend series, the Combo pedal and the Power Stack.

Of course, I don't actually own any of them. But those devices have the respect of people I respect ...

Re: Bought a Boss Power Stack pedal

i have an original 65 Deluxe non-reverb amp and love it in some ways but some of the distortion pedals i have did not do the the trick for me... the Power Stack is pretty darn good... can't wait to try it out thru my Peavey Classic 30 as well.. the C30 is at our drummers house...

but i've been wanting a 65 Deluxe reissue for a while... i just like them.. but was not willing to buy one unless i could find a good distortion pedal to go thru one for me...

Re: Bought a Boss Power Stack pedal

I didn't like how some of my pedals interacted with the DRRI. It was harder than usual to find a "metlz" pedal that worked with it, and even the best-behaved pedals could turn into torture with the slight twist of a knob. But when you got a combination that worked, it really worked.

Re: Bought a Boss Power Stack pedal

I feel the pain. I've gone through my fair share of overdrive/distortion pedals (a ridiculous amount, really). My Vox has been quite picky with pedals, but I do feel fortunate to have stumbled upon the Kingsley Jester. Since I got it a few weeks ago, I've been playing my Vox for hours on end on the weekends. I was never a big pedal guy and I always swore by channel switching amps, but this Vox and Kingsley combination has fully changed my mind. That pedal sounds like an extension of the amp; my perspective on pedals has completely changed. When you find a pedal that jives with your amp, hold onto it!

Re: Bought a Boss Power Stack pedal

So, how has the honeymoon phase gone for your Boss Power Stack?

I'm really amazed by the demos of this pedal. From what I've seen/heard, it's one of the best OD/Dist pedals out there for low dollars.

I've been going through a phase of buying and selling pedals lately, but mostly keeping them! Since I already have my favorite high end pedals, I've been sifting through all the best pedals on the used market for $30 - $50.

I've been picking up some good gems like the Boss Super Chorus and Digitech Hyper Phase.....both really sweet! Way cheap too. I've now spotted a Boss Power Stack, and can snag it cheap as well. From all I've seen, this is a great OD/Dist pedal.

Rather than start a new Power Stack thread, I just thought I'd add to this one, just to see if there are any owners out there who swear by this pedal.

The St-2 is great, I have one, but I think it really should have had a mid control. I hate scooped mids with a steaming passion, so I just turn the mids knob all the way to 11 on my clean channel, bass on 0, treble around 5. Then I finally get a balanced clean channel tone (the mids is so naturally scooped on my amp's clean channel that it isn't even funny) and run the ST-2 into that.

It is a glorious sound and the only pedal I've ever seen that sounds like a raging tube amp head into a clean channel. In fact, it is the only distortion I can use on the clean channel instead of only using a boost on the drive channel. The bass is still healthy with the amp knob on 0, mids maxed, and moderately high treble. I just fine tune the EQ on the pedal and voilà, great tone.

The other pedal I have that's similar is the Marshall Gov'nor II, and I always like to use these types of pedals a boosts for real Marshalls set at midgain. I set the gain on the pedal to balance against the gain on the amp. Never a stand alone OD on a clean amp.

I'm wondering if the Power Stack sounds good like this. I just want the flavor of the pedal to meld with a cranked Marshall, with it's gain fairly low and not buzzing out when set higher.

Re: Bought a Boss Power Stack pedal

I've had a Power Stack now for a month and it's staying!

It has a 3-d quality that normal OD's and Distorto boxes lack.

I use an OD-3 as my main OD pedal and with the gain down on the Power STack, I can almost mimic the OD-3 but with much better articulation. Very nice!

Now I want to try the BC-2 as well.
