Bought a EVH Frankenstein and had to install it backwards...

I have a Fender spaced bridge. I bought a EVH Frankenstein pickup and I knew the poles would not line up with the strings but when mounted the correct way, it was shifted a lot to one side. The low E pole was pretty much under the low E but the high E was way off. It seems like the bobbins were off center from the mounting screws. I tried turning it around and I in doing that, it was more or less even with the high and low E were evenly just outside the poles. My question is I know that the Frankenstein pickup has asymmetrical coils. What difference am I hearing with it backwards compared to if it was mounted the correct way? Thanks!
