Breaking News; Man Trades Agile for Les Paul Spc.

Re: Breaking News; Man Trades Agile for Les Paul Spc.

Its a 98 Special done in a amateur Nitro Gold top. Originally it was gloss Nitro black. A very good guitar compared to the new fadeds, that they use the cheaper wood on. The Rosewood fretboard is really thick and very nice.Looks kinda-sorta like a worn real 50's gold top finish.

I also got a cheap tweed Strat case, and a TC elecronics Nova Modulator pedal that should be a good adiction to my Rack recording set up if I ever record. The guy said it was a 300 dollar pedal.
I traded the Agile Lez Paul , cause i had a shoot out with it and the Epiphone Zakk, and for me, the Zakk Wylde won out, so no use to keep both.

I'll be putting a Duncan SM2-n in the neck of the Special, and routing the bridge for a humbucker- no harm done since its already a refin anyway. Probably a Custom Duncan in the bridge. I want maximum punch factor. This thing is gonna be a beast whenever I get my Mesa and/or Friedman. Its gonna move some air.

I've been playing it some, and it plays like a very well and sounds very good with a old amp like a quality Gibbo 'orta. Its a '98, and less than 5 years away from that 20 year "classic" mark, which , in my estimation, is just about the age when the wood on a good guitar starts to open up and give up the goods tonally. Playing it helps.

Pics coming, but I soaked my old camera in beer the other day and it gave up the ghost, so I'm charging the batteries of my other camera now.
I'm happy as a shig in pit right now. The guy I traded drove 2/3rds of the way from Austin, and was in a brand new Toyota full size truck, so he had some moolah, which is always nice to know that the guys not a scumsucking lowlife like me, and isn't counting pennies.

I'm looking foward to seeing it.

Frets are perfect. Trussrod , haven't checked it, but theres no bow on the neck ( with the old holding the stings down and sighting it trick , and the strings stay at their height even during adjustment, and its holding tune, thats how I gauge it during the sale, plus if everything else adds up i figure its good- but I'm always nervous about that. I should really spend a few minutes and check it with an allen wrench on a craigslist buy.

It has a Schaller bridge.I'm guessing Gibson P-100's. There was a spot of overspray ; I thought might be a fracture near the neck, so i made him go into Wal-mart ( thats where I met him) and get some sandpaper to sand it down, and it checked out okay.

( EDIT- checked truss rod, its good. Small high spot on frets betwen 12th and 15th. Buzzes some. No big deal and I expected as much. I do have the action turned down as low as it will get though.Thats the way God planned it-thats the way God wants it to be.EDIT- Nah, no buzz, I had to adjust the Stop Tail.)

Since when did those come with a belly cut?

You still did good, but I bet the refin was to cover the sand job for the belly cut.

Re: Breaking News; Man Trades Agile for Les Paul Spc.

^ Hell! Thanks for the information. Need to do more homework next time!that sucks. It's gonna be routed for a bridge bucker anyway, but still- hate getting something not knowing exactly what it is. Like the guy knew, but didnt say. That probably would have been a deal killer up front. A double whammy- refin AND belly cut. Yeah, not like I had a whole lot to lose, but still.

Note to self; "Guess what idiot- Les Pauls don't have a belly cut".:barf: Im still diggin it tho- thats a good sign. I'm going to be embarrased to show my friend though, after I bragged about it.

EDIT - A website is showing a "Les Paul Junior Special" that fits my description exactly, with belly cut. Problem is, it list production as from 1999- 2003-, and mine is a 1998.Wishful thinking that it could be factory stock belly cut. I'll call Gibson Monday.;

BUT..BUT BUT BUT..WAIT- THIS post from the Les Paul Froum Indicates that the Les Paul Special SL WAS a Belly Cut Model? The book doesn't indicate that it was though.I maintain a snowballs chance mine is all original ;

LAST EDIT- After further review, I consider this guitar to be all original with the Belly Cut. I'll still try and ask Gibson. Ive been assured by someone very knowlegable in Gibson Guitars that my Les Paul P90 guitar Belly Cut looks 100% factory, and that it would be almost impossible to do otherwise. That with the other evidence leads me to believe its stock as far as routing goes.
I am now inclined to not route it further, and add a set of SP90-3's instead.

Well there you go. Had no idea they ever made those with a cut.

Re: Breaking News; Man Trades Agile for Les Paul Spc.

Messed with the modulator yet?

Re: Breaking News; Man Trades Agile for Les Paul Spc.

My own 2 cents: strip it back, and refinish it (or not, depending on the wood), but leave it built for P90s.
