Breed - i got a dud one?

just measured and confirmed my Breed is super hot :firedevil: :rocket: :firing:, so what do i do about it? I noticed when i first played that it was very crunchy. I mean sure, its listed as a high output pickup, so it should make my amp sing but this was just something else. My stock pickups were already Ibanez ones with fat double thickness mags and 15k resistance. But the breed still caught me totally off guard.

I thought it was supposed to be a mid heavy pickup? But when i chord an E5 i can hear the lows, mids, highs all roaring with my JCM getting dangerously saturated. and i dont even have it close to the strings. and yeah, i measured it. Was 17.3k instead of 16.3k Ohm that the site says it is. Like whats up with that? Did Steve change his mind half way through the production patch and wanted to get some extra oomph from it? I can only imagine Larry complying, seeing the businessman he is, still, I cannot tell if this is good or bad. Anyone else with this experience?

Dunno, dude. My Breeds were glorious hot-PAF gooey goodness. I never measured them. What do the DiMarzio people say?

Re: Breed - i got a dud one?

I've had plenty of pups that were under/overwound +/- at least 1k. It happens with every company.

But really, 1k shouldn't be enough to be a dealbreaker.

I challenge anyone to audibly compare a marginally overwound model to a "normal" production model and decipher the two apart.

I'm thinkin' the Breed just isn't your thing.

Or maybe there is some irony in that OP. Maybe he got exactly what he was hoping for.

Sounds like a pretty good review to me.

Re: Breed - i got a dud one?

I had a Breed that was SUPER hot, it clipped the input of every preamp/interface that I plugged the guitar into. Only moving it so far from the strings that it was almost even with the pickguard made it usable, and then it sounded too weak.

Like hotter than other 'marzios?

Hotter than the X2N, Evolution, Steve Morse bridge, Super Distortion, D-Activator X, etc. (All pickups that are supposed to be a lot hotter than the Breed bridge.)

Where did you get it from?
