Brian May signature amp...

Re: Brian May signature amp...

and i bet if he ever were to actually use his signature amp, it would just stay on one volume. so basically, its like either on or off. sometimes i wish i could just have an amp like that that was voiced perfectly and all i had to do was choose what volume i wanted to play at.

Re: Brian May signature amp...

man this has bludave's name all over it, he always says he wants an amp he just turns on and cranks the volume hahaha

So true. Brian May dimes the volume on his amp. He controls all his volume from the guitar. All this really needs is an on/off switch and a standby switch.

Brian May tone. Done.

Re: Brian May signature amp...

I hadn't seen that yet. I know I wish I was the guy who hit BIN. What's next?...an amp that just has an On/Off switch? (in Nigel Tuffnel voice)...this one goes to ON.

"How much more simple can you get? The answer is 'None...none more simple.'"

Re: Brian May signature amp...

These BM AC30s seem to be a total waste of time IMO. You're paying more money for an amp that does less?! It just doesn't make sense to me.

They're also NOT handwired and are circuit board based like other Vox amps.

I'm a member on the Brian may forum and the guitarists on there have gone through this amp with a fine toothed comb :D

Re: Brian May signature amp...

The amp is handwired....and PCB at the same time. It has a boost circut switch in the back and that runs off of a PCB. Everything else is PTP according to the Vox site. I seen the amp yesterday, the Music Zoo has one, looks pretty cool. I like amps with just one knob, volume (I got my Gibson GA5 that I know everyone loves) ;-) It also has a switch that turns the amp from 30 watts to 15 watts. Pretty massive looking too.

Re: Brian May signature amp...

It's a cool looking amp, but I'm guessing Brian May has a few more tricks up his sleeve to get his sound, like killer effects and reverb?? I'm guessing that amp is one piece of the puzzle to try to achieve a big lush tone like Brian May has. Not saying it won't sound cool on it's own, but there's got to be more to Brian May's rig.

Re: Brian May signature amp...

Can someone gimmme some background info on this guy? I am honestly not familiar with the name...

Re: Brian May signature amp...

Add a treble booster pedal and a red special guitar = queen. Maybe reverb like you said. But then again, for most of his studio stuff he used a homemade tiny amp made out of his car radio. Not too familiar with it though. But thats were he gets a lot of the treble and the very transistor sound stuff from (think the little intro to the solo in killer queen - almost like a wah pedal).

Re: Brian May signature amp...

I remember reading about a little homemade transister amp that was actually battery powered and I think he used it to drive the AC30's, like a pedal. Not sure but that's what I remember. Vox put out that little white amp that was a copy of it and could be used to drive the font end of an AC30 or another amp to get Brian May's tone. According to Vox's literature, the circuit of that little original amp is built into this signature Brian May AC30, pretty cool.

Re: Brian May signature amp...

wow my local guitar shop, Big Apple was selling that. i wish i knew they had one in stock because i've been dying to try that out (even though the reviews don't make it sound like its anything special)

Re: Brian May signature amp...

I have found I do my best writing, playing, and singing when I have a great voiced piece of equipment and don't have to waste time tweaking.

I have never seen this amp, but if it sounds good - Kudos!

I mean I would like a bass treb and mid

but my vintage Marshall is almost a joke as far as controls. It basically has no tonal range, just a volume if you ask me ... lol - and it sounds like GOD!

Some Dr Z's are like this as well - and apparently Brad Paisley knows hot to make 'em sound great. Bad Cats are somewhat simplistic to me, and me like!

I went to this amp after having 2 Mesas that required tweaking to all hell - what a waste of time and money. Pull it out, heat it up and your off - I love it!

So can you footswitch the boost on this amp or is that too many switches?

yeah i think 75% of his tone is his guitar. hes got so many combos of pickps in/ out of phase, plus they are wired in series, not parallel. its a really kewel guitar.
