Re: bridge or neck
Bridge pickups are wound a little hotter than neck pickups to help balance out the volume when the same pickup is used in both positions. There is less string movement at the bridge, which explains why there is a slight volume drop when switching from the neck to the bridge in certain vintage guitars. Back then, there were no separate pickups for the neck and bridge, just one that was used for both.
You can always put a bridge model in the neck if you want a little more output. This works well with the vintage style pickups, like the '59, Pearly Gates, Alnico II Pro, etc. I would not recommend putting a high output bridge model in the neck, and I would also not recommend using a neck model in the bridge spot.
