Hi there, i'm searching for a new Bridge Pickup for my little Ibanez RBM-1, but i can't decide, for which one i should go for.
Here are a few details:
Guitar: Maple Neck with Rosewood Fingerboard (bolt on), a Mahagony Body (not the biggest one), Ibanez Lo Pro Edge Tremolo with a Brass Sustain Block.
Two SD SSL-1, one modified SD Full Shred (got now 6 normal Screws, looks like a Demon).
And it has not that typical "ibanez sound", because it has 0% basswood.
Amp: '83 Marshall 2203, 4x12 Cabinet loaded with G12-65.
So well, i think i should say, that the guitar sounds to me more like a Strat than a Les Paul. Got a lots of Mids and is percussive sounding. The bass is tighter than on my strat and it has a bit more "chugginess".
Ok, lets go the the Pickups. For Cleansounds (2203 is a One channel amp), the SSL-1s do them exactly as i like them. The Full Shred sounds good, too, but it is not 100% what i searched for. After i swapped out six of the hex screws and put normal screws in there, it sounded already better to my ears. A bit more "airness" in the sound, and the harmonics had more treble response.
I would like to have something with a bit more "treble response" for the 80s Metal playing. Guitar is for 80s Style only, for "allround things" i got my Gibson SG.
Picked out two favorites (more tonewise than outputwise):
First: The JB, what i like about that pickup, are the upper mids and the huge how the leads "sing". The Bass is ok, too.
Second: Screamin Demon, here i like the airy Tone, the Attack and the trebly (uh messing up with the words!!) "shining. Also i like that "kinda glued together sound".
For which one would you go for in my situation ? The Demon or the JB? Or maybe for a whole different pickup?
Would be nice, if somebody shares his opinions.
Thanks
Jerri
