I just finished hot-rodding a 3-pickup flying-v for my brother-in-law, and he mentioned to me tonight that he would like me to take a look at his explorer (epiphone, korina, 2xcovered stock pickups).
He said the neck pickup is crapping out on him, but he doesn't necessarily play it all that much. He does however, want to replace the bridge pickup to get a little more grit.
To further paint the picture, he's using a B-52 tube amp, no pedals, and med. gauge strings.
He'd like to keep a covered (gold) pickup in the bridge position if at all possible.
Any thoughts on what would help make that guitar growl a bit more?
Nothing too terribly bright, so I suppose balanced would be the best option, but he's playing mostly classic rock (VH, KISS, etc.)
Thanks guys, I am looking forward to the varying responses on this one.
