Bridge pup optimal solution required!

Hi, I'm gonna change the pups on my carvin DC127T! (old story...)

All-Koa neckthrough, ebony fingerboard, wilkinson trem, 500k vol & tone pots!
It's a warm sounding guitar with a bit bright top end due to koa & ebony.
Still not as bassy as mahogany, I guess... Also, it lacks the punch of maple neck!

For the neck I've chosen APH so far, I think it will give me a very warm sweet clean tone for Jazz/Blues/Pop supposed to be good for arppegios, same sweet overdriven tone, hopefully not muddy... Still consider Jazz or Pearly Gates, what do you think?

As for the bridge, I'm looking for a punchy, low/medium output pup, that won't be harsh with ebony fingerboard won't lack in mids/bass, will have good cleans, tight mutes/powerchords, cutting through lead, with possiblility to have sweet soft overdrive like Larry Carlton & John Scofield!

Dont' forget - ebony fboard, 500k vol & tone...

I think that either the Custom or C5 would fit the bill.

Me, I'd find some other Duncan equipped guitars matching this spec, or compare wood profiles with what's on the pickup's descriptions. You might have to do some heavy internet searching for matching guitars (materials). Some of the EQ can be balanced out by using EQ and/or adjusting pole pieces, I'd imagine. But me, honestly, if I ever have the money, I'd LOVE to experiment with woods and SD pickups later in life. Just to throw random combinations together to get a totally different sound. I guess it's up to you. Maybe, try finding what pickups you want based on your desires rather than the woods, you might luck out!

If you want punch and medium ouput : Screaming Demon but it could be too bright with ebony , so i voted the Blues Saraceno .
I don't know this p-u but it could worth trying .

Custom is a good choice, its more med-high output which is not a bad thing, nice and tight and articulate nice amount of low end and has a cutting lead tone nice midrange growl, the cleans are fairly decent and its voiced slightly on the bright side, sounds very impressive split with the APH2 in the neck nice clean strat like rhythm sounds.

I say that a 59 bridge and a APH neck mght be your thing!

Might just be me but, I think the Custom, C5, and the JB are going to be way over the top for you!

Not on a Carvin.

Anything wound to less than 13k sounds a bit flat and anemic in Carvins. Trust me, I own 2. :burnout:

Maybe it's a good idea to change the guitar then .
A few years ago i had a Gibson MIII , very good concept of wiring p-u ( a toogle to choose between Gibson and Fender configuration ) and i spent a fortune to try pickups before to realise ,when i tried same p-u in another guitar , that i had to get rid of the MIII .

No need to change guitars.

Carvin makes great guitars, but they are voiced a bit differently than most other guitars. Due to their construction, they are very articulate and a bit on the bright side. IMO, they need a higher output bridge pickup to sound their best.

You're guitar is a blend of bright woods. I have used Gibsons with this kind of build and I can say the 490 ceramics soudned great but I prefer Alnico 2 Pros. The Custom 5 is great for what you want, but might be a tad bright and too sweet. You don't sound like you are after rude tone. I happen to love the APH1, but I do like higher output pickups - sadly, most of them don't clean up well.

I would also say the Dimarzio Air Zone or Air Norton would work well.

I am not the biggest Carvin fan.

BTW many on here rave about the RIO GRANDE BBQ as being beautiful, dark, and full!
