Man I'm really diggin the 496R neck pup in my V, but sometimes the 500T bridge is too muddy. Any suggestions on a better match? And it doesn't have to be a Duncan. I'm down with other gibby pups and such.

Duncan Custom, Custom 5 or Gibson 498T. Duncan Custom will be the best match for 496R IMHO because it uses a ceramic magnet.

You can't go wrong with a Duncan Distortion bridge. I have a DD / 496R in my SG.

Dirty, how crowded treble-wise do you want to go? The Gibson Dirty Fingers bridge model (the originals, anyway) are like listening to steel pipe being chopped off, while eating a bowl of nails!

i say DD because they are similar but the duncan is better.

Yea, I put a Distortion in my SG X replacing the 500T and made a huge difference in clarity, but its still not open enough like the Demon I had in before that. I have a Custom in my Gothic SG which is perfect and I mean perfect. Its open enough, fat and clear. I was thinking of a Full shred or JB maybe for something different I haven't tried yet, but its got to match the 496R. Hmmmmmmmm decisions, decisions.....

If you think the 500T is too muddy, I'd highly reccomend the Duncan Custom. It's powerful cuz it's ceramic, but it's not as midrangey as the Distortion. A little more midrange clarity, in my opinion.

I had both the DD and the Dcustom in a les paul, and I think that the Custom works better in a LP, because the LP already has tons of mids and lows, and the Custom has less mids than the DD>

Re: Bridge pup to match 496R better than the 500T

That was why I recommended the Custom from the beginning and not the Distortion.

Hard for a 500T to ever be muddy, it's pretty bright, perceivably brighter than a Duncan Distortion. I just found the DD to have better low end as the 500T was lifeless in comparison (In my SG). In my Les Paul the 500T rocks.

don't mean to thread jack but are you pairing the 500T in your LP with the stock neck PU, the 490R? How do they match up?

Re: Bridge pup to match 496R better than the 500T

the stock pickup is 496R, not 490R. 496R is ceramic and is a good match to 500T
