Bridge Rec's for LP: Removing Whole Lotta...Suggestions?

Gooch

I play a (heavy, unchambered) Les Paul Traditional and have had the WLH for about two years and it's kind of become fatiguing to me. It can get really squelchy with my modded Marshalls. It reminds me a lot of the BB-3 that guitar came with and that pickup was just harsh on the ears.

All my other guitars, Schecter Teles and Fender Lone Stars, have Duncan Customs, SH-5. I am moving a bit away from higher gain pickups and like the clarity of mid-gain pickups. Love PAF pups.

I was thinking of the Custom, of course, and also the Demartini RTM. Maybe the Custom 5 or the 59/Custom Hybrid, but I've heard those can also be shrill, but maybe no in a LP.

It would pair with a Slash Neck pup.

I play rock and hard rock in a cover band Suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

Those are good choices. If you want it less screechy, the mag halps a lot! A4 and A8 are ace for warm bridge tone.

Based on your preferences, I think you should try the Custom 5. It's kind of the middle point between the WLH and Custom. If the WLH is Page, and the Custom is Zakk type tone, the C5 is Alex Lifeson.

Hi,
59/Hybrid can do it all: loud, crunchy, Clean!, metal, you name it. I like mine with an RCA5. Bet an A4 would be a great pallet for that p'up.
Very strong slug coil so turning it 180 can brighten it considerably if you move the slugs close to the bridge. My 2 cents.
Cheers,

I definitely don't want it brighter, so good know. Thanks!

I've run an A8 in a Custom and a Demon and I found the A8 made both much more harsh on the high end, not warm at all.

Why not go full PAF...Pearlys, or if you're not playing at extreme gain or high volume, the unpotted Seths or Antiquitys?

Another thought would be the Brobucker...

I think A8 is a tad less harsh than A5 but more powerful. While both are below ceramic in harshness. A4 is for sure warm.

Also to get less screechy, going up in output halps. Give it a rest with the vintage output bridge.

That's not my experience at all. A8 made both if those pickups unusable for me, way more harsh than A5 or ceramic.

Given his comments an APH2 or custom custom would be my suggestions.

Yeah I think a Custom Custom would be good. I don't like vintage output.

Slash bridge, great pickup. Less aggressive than the WLH and much more pleasing to the ear.

In the Custom family, I might suggest UA5 for a chewier vintage-type feel, or A4 for more even response with tighter lows and slightly faster attack. CustomCustom can be a little soggy in LPs unless it's a really bright one.

Yas for the A4 or UOA5 Custom.
