Bright LP....

I don't Get it.

Th LP is supposed to be a warm guitar isn't it ?

So i bought one of these EDWARDS MIJ LP's, Mahogany body and neck, Rosewood board and 5mm Mple Top.

It's too bright. SOunds hard and clinky, doesn't have this velvet sound.
Pickups are a 59 and JB.

the 59 is ok, and by the way
the best paf i've ever heard.

But the bridge sounds very harsh and trebly.
I swapped the JB for a Custom shop Super V,
and it was still trebly and harsh. Doesn't come from the pickups.

What sould i do ?
Can the strings make it sound like this, or
another element i missed ?
Should i wait for a while to see if the sound
gets better with time ?
Or should i just buy one if these PRS SE ?

Re: Bright LP....

I changed the strings, raised the action and used a rounder
and thicker guitar pick and it stopped souding bright.

It's that simple.

Re: Bright LP....

I haven't heard a JB that I wouldn't gladly trade for just about anything else.

thats because you havent heard the JB in my gadow custom hollow. i was really surprised at how much i love that pup in that guitar. never liked it in anything else at all. its like it was made for this guitar.

Re: Bright LP....

1st, I wouldn't say after ONE pickup swap the the issue is the guitar...

2nd, what kind of other guitars are you comparing this to...how have you decided this is an overly bright guitar?

+1 Any guitar ive heard with a JB in it hasnt had the most pleasant output ive ever heard. Im sure there are good setups with JBs in them somewhere, i just have seen them.

I'm with scottish, but I say try a 250k pot in the volume position. It's easier to find audio taper 250ks than 300ks. You could also try a higher value cap in the bridge.
