I was wondering if any of you guys have played any JJ guitars. I have been curious about them since i saw the Retro over a year ago. Now they have the electra out that looks amazing. All the reviews I have read say they are outstanding guitars.... any info or experience with them would be appreciated.

Re: Brits... JJ Guitars?

i played a jewel, but it wasnt for me.

it's set neck which im not really into and on the whole the actual neck felt very slow to me. but neck wise its all personal preferance really

sound wise i was quite impressed for the price range (700 pounds i think the one i played was) was up there with anything else, it sounded quite full and rich from what i remember.

I played a Jewel and a Retro HB when I was out guitar hunting in London the other week and I was VERY impressed. I found them both very well designed ergonomically, and comfortable to play. They felt right as soon as I picked them up. The factory set-up was spot on and they had a really good range of usable tones. The flame tops and finishes are great too. I'm currently looking to buy a new guitar and JJs are high on the list of contenders. I hope to be trying some more soon at another dealer.

thanks for the info guys..... looks are 1 thing but finding out about what they are really about are another. They seem like a UK PRS

I would say the build and finish quality rivals PRS easily. Don't know how JJ prices compare in the US, but for us Brits the JJs are a LOT cheaper. Of course, PRS have the big name and reputation like Gibson and Fender, but if you're not too concerned about what it says on the headstock you can get a first class guitar at a very good price. I'm tempted.

...and (sorry for double post) that sort of black/blue burst electra on the website makes me dribble :)

Re: Brits... JJ Guitars?

i agree with Simon F, i'd rate them up with PRS's.

in fact i prefer them to PRS's - PRS guitars just dont agree with me at all, they dont feel and sound the way i wish they would.

the JJ i played sounded great just i didnt like the feel (again personal preference)

quality wise i'd rate them very highly indeed - i had no niggles like sharp fret edges or finish flaws, it was immaculate

Re: Brits... JJ Guitars?

A zombie thread resurrection but a few days ago I was in my local independent guitar store checking on two of my strats which are in for pickup changes.
Neither are 100% ready yet and I put a deposit down on one of these which has been sitting on the wall second hand for a few months. I never even played it
so once I've paid it up I'll let you know what I think about it. The top on mines is a better match and the original owner has had a Piezo type pickup fitted under the bridge

edit, I decided not to buy it, used the deposit to instead buy a little Mooer five band graphic and with the money I'd have spent on the guitar
bought two Hercules five guitar stands, one Hercules single guitar stands, a new custom build humbucker for my humbucker only Strat and
a set of custom build P-90's for one of my Teles. Had to tell myself that I really didn't need another guitar so apologies for posting in haste

I have a JJ southpaw Electrolux. Very playable, 6 way switch - so it is really 3 guitars in one. More than a PRS, I can assure you and it is cheaper. You ought to contact Jeff Guilford at JJ guitars for more information.
