Broadcaster tele pickup

Anybody here use a Broadcaster lead pickup and what do you think of it? I also thought of a 5/2 lead. I'll put in a SD vintage neck pickup with either one I get. I've attached a picture of the Tele it will be going in.

52 RI Tele

Re: Broadcaster tele pickup

They're wonderful pickups. Used one for many years that I put in a MIJ Tele.

Strong bass, nice mids, twangy highs. Classic early 50's Tele tone.

That said, I have to say that the Antiquity I and the Jerry Donahue are my two favorites. Those have more of the tone that certain, very rare early 50's Tele's have. It's a tone with more midrange and that compresses just a little more easily and allows me to shape the tone with the pick and fingers a little more than the Broadcaster.

My '51 Tele had a pickup like I just described. Apparantly so does Jerry Donahue's '52 as Seymour patterned the Jerry Donahue after it. Reminds me a little of a P-90...

But most early Teles have pickups more similar to the Braodcaster or '54: brighter, twangier, etc.

You couldn't go wrong with any of those three: Broadcaster, Antiquity or Jerry Donahue. The JD would be the strongest with the fullest mids, though the Broadcaster might have tighter and deeper bass.

Thanks Lew,
I have a JD in a another tele and I don't have any plans on replacing it. I just bought a new tele and want to put something different in it.

Well then, the Broadcaster would be a great change of pace...or the Antiquity. For something hotter, you might want to think about the Duncan Tele Hot too...especially the Tapped Tele hot.

You'd use it with a 5 way switch instead of the 3 way.

The Tapped output would be similar to a Broadcaster and the Hot output would be killer for pushing your amp into overdrive a little more easily.

With a 5 way switch you'd get:

1. Hot Bridge
2. Hot Bridge & Neck
3. Neck
4. Vintage Output Bridge & Neck
5. Vintage Output Bridge

Very Very Cool!
