Broken amp question.

Let's say I have the opportunity to buy an amp for fairly cheap because it's popping fuses.

How expensive could that be to fix? What is most likely wrong with it?

Re: Broken amp question.

It could be a number of things.

I got given an amp that was popping fuses and I went though all the typical suspects trying to find it and it turned out to be a short in the PT.

The amp was absolute crud so I never bothered replacing the PT its just sat in the corner of my room and slowly getting salvaged for parts.

What amp is it?

Re: Broken amp question.

How cheap. If it hisses when running, the transformer may be OK. It could be as simple as a bad jack or complicated enough to cost over a hundred to fix. If the price is right, take a chance on it. It could even be a blown tube, and you really get lucky.

Don't fix it while you check it out. Just turn it on, listen, then buy it. If you retube it in front of him, the price could possibly change.
