Bro's, care to listen to three of my songs on Ubetoo.com?

I found this site yesterday, Ubetoo.com.

It's basically something like myspace and youtube, where independent artist can upload their music & videos and listeners can listen for free, while at the same time those artists/uploaders that get the most plays get some income from it. Quite cool and if it gets any success it might be a real challenger to myspace, maybe? ;)

The service is quite new and might be something to jump on while the thing is still fresh and not too many uploaders! (a tip for other songwriters and project studio guys)

Anyways I uploaded three of my songs there and I'd be really thankful if you'd take a surf over there and listen and rate them. And of course, if you put your stuff up there, I promise I'll do the same for you :)

I have three songs there: "Frankie", "Coast Road" and "No One Ever Cares", you'll find them through this link: http://www.ubetoo.com/Artist.taf?_ArtistId=5373

Thanks for letting me know about it.

I'll listen to your stuff and give it some 5s when I get home.

No One... and Coast Road were good, but very similar. I liked Frankie a lot, though it might need some mastering to bring things out more. Right now it seems a bit flat in places. I would play with the EQ on the drums and maybe add a little reverb and boost it up - stuff like that.

But overall, some good stuff... keep up the work.

One other thing - I use Soundclick - and one thing I like about that site is seeing the lyrics. I miss that here.

It's good music bro. I don't have any criticism about it because it sounds good except the vocal mix maybe. Keep it up dude because I think you have something if you keep going.

good stuff mate. frankie's my favorite.

Re: Bro's, care to listen to three of my songs on Ubetoo.com?

Thanks Franctic! :D

RW_James, Thanks for listening. Yes, No One and Coast Road are very similar and they are also from my first home recorded EP that I made about a year ago. Frankie is newer, I finished it last spring so it has better quality and sounds better overall (as I had learned quite alot since mixing the EP), but there's still a long way to pro quality ;) So thanks for the mixing critics as well.

Yeah, I have a soundclick account as well. But there's alot of people that ain't familiar with soundclick at all here around where I live, but then instead myspace is known by everyone. The only bad thing with myspace is that the sound quality sucks! I agree with you that lyrics would be a nice addition to Ubetoo.com though (or maybe the function is there already and I missed it? I have to log in and check ;) )

Yngwiestein, Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! Yup, I agree... the vocals are the thing that needs more work (I all three songs I think). Acutally I believe that the vocals are the single most important thing to get things to sound really pro.

Arbeiter, thanks bro!

Cool stuff man.

Hey man.

I really liked the music. Great guitar playing and tones. The vocals are very unique - good stuff.

There are only a few minor pitch issues with the vocals here and there. You could use antares auto-tune or just manual pitch-shift to get those couple of seconds into pitch. I recommend antares auto-tune though - because if used right, it can smooth out the entire pitch of the whole track. I found it was not the sustained notes - but passing short notes. The high harmony might need some too.

Oh btw, did you think about using something on the vocals, like delay or reverb? It seems pretty dry, unless ofcourse you are going for that dry studio sound on everything. You could just use a little reverb or something to just add some air to it.

Thanks Tor and Frantic!

Yup, the vox are my weakest part in the chain. Should've auto-tuned them a little. The next song will feature auto-tune,

But on the other hand the one I'm mixing now isn't too picky about the vocals being a 'lil off so we'll see about that ;)

Frankie is flat out the best mix and all... since it is the newest. The two others Coast Road and No One is about a year old now and I've learned a lot since that so.

Hopefully will the one I'm working on now be even better! I will probably have it ready before Christmas (that's my goal at least) ;)

Man..it is like being transported to a place of more realness....like the "off" stuff and the whole vibe of it!
Good music and a much needed raw thing going on!
Like the sparse soundscapes.....like hearing a piece3 of music from around where I was born:D
Thanks for posting!

Listening to Frankie now... sounds good man!

Vocals are a little hot... esp, the chorus backgrounds. Pitch is fine! It's not pop music so who cares if they aren't 'perfect'?! Duck 'em down a few dB and add smoke & mirrors... a little chorus or modulation, some short delay... it's all good.

What are you using for drums?

Re: Bro's, care to listen to three of my songs on Ubetoo.com?

Rid, you know that's a comment that I'll remember! Appreciate that A LOT :D Thanks!

innerdreamrecords, Coast Road and Frankie vox were recorded with a Studio Projects B1 while No One Ever Cares was recorded with a vintage Oktava ML52 style ribbon mic called the Birdcage, which is sold and manufactured by a small Swedish company: http://www.microphonedeals.com/.

It's a GREAT mic for the money, the company decided to stop their business this summer because they took too much orders and got horribly long waiting lists. But I just saw on their webpage yesterday that they have catched up and decided to continue after all. Great mic for a great price! :)

J Moose, thanks for listen and it's really nice to hear from "someone in the business" that it sounds good :) The drums are EZDrummer.

Thanks for the critics as well, I will take them to me and remember them for the next song. I don't want to alter these mixes anymore as it feels like this was what it sounded like at the time when I decided that the specific track was ready. But none the less, I really appreciate getting critics as they are really important and very useful when recording and mixing the next tune!

Re: Bro's, care to listen to three of my songs on Ubetoo.com?

I listened again. I think your vocals could use some more punch either with a different mic or heavy compression and some eq adjustments. They kinda don't take center stage like they should in the mix. Just my 2 Euros.
