No...

No EVH threads. I went from loving Ed and actually obsessing (to a reasonable extent) over his tone. However this forum has made me hate everything about him.

It's awesome, but it isn't THAT awesome.

I'll see you guys in 14 pages...

I've been trying to get that sound at the beginning of Hot For Teacher for 20 years...

Yeah, well, Jesus, man, if the way you play drums is anything like the way you play basketball, maybe you should pick yourself up, and find yourself an angel to help you dust off that robe and beat out your frustrations 'cause you're never gonna get that sound, by yourself, with or without drugs, at the beginning of Hot For Teacher!

There's the key... pads. His "recording space" was non-existent in the tiny room Ed had at the time of 1984, so the best "sound" he could get was Simmons pads, a real snare and real cymbals. Ugh... I know.

Honestly, as much has I love his drumming and have been a fan, the only decent drum sound he ever had that matched his skill was F.U.C.K and Van Halen III and that's partly because Andy Johns (ex. Led Zeppelin) was placing the mics. Balance was OK and VHII, WaCF, Fair Warning and Diver Down were passable, but honestly I don't think Donn Landee has any clue how to get a really good drum sound. Carboard box 70's crappola.

K... so here's a creative way to derail a trollish EVH post... talk about the drummer.

:cool2:

Drugs are a very dangerous thing

WARNING: LANGUAGE... it's Bill Hicks and this is 120% truth.

Booze and drugs is no excuse. Part of it is dealing with neanderthal-brained a-hole fans who can't deal with artists who like to change.

"Geez, when are you going to put out new music"

"Geez, that new music sucks... I wish it sounded like the old music"

"Geez, this sounds like the same album over and over again, when you are you going to do something different".

Etc, etc....
