bucker choices

I have two sets of buckers and one guitar that still needs upgrading. It is the R9 and I have the Duncan A2 Seth Anniversaries from MF and a set of Fralin Zebras. Chime in and give your opinion on which I should put in the guitar and why. The RS premium historic kit is already a given. My R9 is rather light and quite resonant, if that helps any with your answer.

Re: bucker choices

So the Seths are in it now? For straight up vintage stick with the Seths, but I'm with Jeremy in asking what Fralins do you have?

I tried a bridge Seth in my R8, and although it was cool, it wasn't what I wanted for the guitar, it just didn't sound quite right under my fingers. I'm actually going to order another 78 for my R8 I like it so much, if you ever consider CS pups and want something with a vintage feel, but with more aggression I recommend it. The brobucker is another option if you are ever looking at CS pups.

AGHH I ramble...

Re: bucker choices

It is an 8k/9k standard potted A4 set. DC resistance wise a bot less than halfway between the custom Seth which is at 7.4k/8.4k MOL and the Brobucker. A tad hotter than the "aged" buckers that Fralin makes for RS. This appears to be his mid-grade set as far as the PAF style pickups go.

They sound very nice and interesting sounding. I'd give them a go as well. I've heard that Fralin's buckers are for people who don't generally like buckers, would you agree with that?

Re: bucker choices

not sure. From what I have read, you could say that about his Unbuckers. Lew and others say that they are one of the best available if you are going to split the coils.

Re: bucker choices

Even though I really have no experience (other than owning a set of seth lovers), I'm going to say put the seths in. Reason, because you have a reissue twin and I imagine that tweed with a PAF would sound very nice.

Re: bucker choices

One of the uses that I have contemplated for the Fralins is to rout out the Firebird and put them in there. Sacrilege or a good idea?:laugh2:

Well....

If you find your house broken into and your firebird missing....

Know that it's at a better place... and I'm not talking about heaven :27:

Re: bucker choices

I went with the Seths along with the RS kit and the Tonepros bridge. Reports to follow. I think I may save the Fralins for the Goldtop. It currently has the Moore/Green set and, while the middle position is interesting, I am not entirely happy with the individual pickup sounds as compared to the Fillmore set in the R8.
