Budda Wah Wah

Does anybody own or at least use a Budda Wah pedal? I've owned 4 Crybaby's as of late, and sorry to say, there all junk. the switches and the pots are junk for sure. I owned one in the early 70's and it was a great pedal. I wish I still had that one, but I'm afraid it's long gone. I've read some great things about the Budda and would like first hand experiences. So guys, are they as good as they say they are?

Re: Budda Wah Wah

Good wah, there are better out there but there are far worse...made by Dunlop...has the same pot as the Dunlop but Im not sure about the switch. I think they are pretty good sounding, pretty well made and they look great. I think a Fulltone is a better sounding wah and I think Teese is an even better sounding wah but the Budda is hard to beat...if you are fed up wiht the Dunlop Crybabys maybe look into a Vox reissue as well...not as vocal and sweet as the Teese stuff but still a great wah...Joe Bonamassa uses one dead stock and sounds great with it!

Re: Budda Wah Wah

Whatever you do do not get a snarling dogs!! They have issues with the "wah" pot losing it's ability to hold position (you know, keep the pedal's foot suspended) and their switch pots go bad all the time. I actually like the way they sound though.

I've stayed away from crybaby wahs, even as tempted as I've been to get the Slash model, I just have read too many bad things.

I found the Vox wah to be too bright and harsh on the top end for my taste but their sweep wah is unbeatable.

The Budda seems cool, but like the guy who invented fire said.. it's still made by Dunlop.

I'd like to find a nice wah myself...

The pot has nothing to so with the wah staying in a suspended position...thats the rocker...

Whats a switch pot??/ You mean the external adjustments???

The sweep on the reissue Vox wahs is a little narrow and the top is sharp but so are vintage Clyde wahs from the 60's...

Re: Budda Wah Wah

I tried the BudWah .... IMO, a good, not great wah

sent it back and got a Teese RMC-1 ... no regrets ;)

I don't know much about the names of the parts in there but this rocker you speak of... can I replace it somehow?

Yeah, my wah has three modes I can switch inbetween A white room (bassy), voodoo (hendrix-ish) and shaft (bright and funky, very harsh beyond vox) and the switch or something related to it always likes to somehow turn the effect off (as if it's being bypassed) in mid-use on the voodoo setting. That happens to be my favorite setting...

yeah, you are right, the vox was/is narrow. I guess what I meant was the "wah" voicing it could make during certain sweeps can be nasty.

Re: Budda Wah Wah

Ok so besides my lil' hijack (sorry) we've got two honorable mentions:

Fulltone vs. Teese

Let's get some comparisons...

Depends on who the wah is put together...some of them can be tightened some can not...I'll look into it and see what I can find but since you have it look at at the foot pedal UNDER the foot...around the area of the gears for the pot and see if you see a screw or an allen head...

Let's get some comparisons...

IMHO there is not much comparison....

Fulltone makes 2 wahs the Clyde and the Clyde Deluxe...one does a plain and simple 60's Vox tone and one has more difffernt sounds...Teese does 7 wahs bnut for the purpose of comparison we'll pick 2 teese wahs...the RMC 4 Picture wah is a straight ahead, plug and play wah in the style of a vintage Vox like the Fulltone Clyde and the RMC2 is a tweakable wah with the vintage Vox tones plus some like the Fulltone Clyde Deluxe...

Plain and simple the Teese wahs are just overall much better wahs IMO...I know there are a lot of guys out there that like the Fulltone stuff but the Picture just nails the vintage vox tone and vibe muchbetter than the Fulltone IMO plus I don't like the wah the Fulltone wahs feel under my feet...that Fulltone case is big and buily and I don't like it, theTeese is smoother, the pots last longer and the tone is more true to "correct". As for the Clyde Deluxe vs the RMC2..the RMC2 just stomps the Clyde Delyxe...no contest...again smoother pots, much more vocal qualitys, again the Clyde Deluxe feels funny under my foot...

I know it sounds like Im just slammin the Fulltone and thats not true, they are good wahs but IMO they are not near as good as the Teese stuff plus Teese offers 7 wah pedals so if you want classic Vox, vintage Colorsound, 70's Crybaby, modern high gain, smooth funk, hot rod Hendrix...whatever your poison Teese makes it, add to that that all Teese wahs come stock with the FoxRox buffer for being used wiht fuzz pedals and the amazing custom support that Geoffrey Teese give his customers and the Teese wins by a mile!

Re: Budda Wah Wah

looks like a screw

Is it set up where you'd have to come in in between the body of the wah and the treddle to adjust it??

If so that is more than likely the adjustment for the tension of the tredle...

Tightening the screw will tighten the feel of the tredle...give it a shot and see...just turn the screw a few times and see if the pedal gets tighter.

If that is it don't over do it...just tighten it until it feels better and will stay put and roll with it until it needs more adjustment...

Re: Budda Wah Wah

Hey, you guys took over my thread, just kidding! actually you guys thought of questions I may not have. Heres a big question, the thing that got my attention on the Budda was the true bypass. Does the Teese or the Fulltone have the bypass. Wah pedals really screw with your tone even when off. I don't use a wah that often, but when I need one, I want it to work great, and when I don't need it I want it to be comepletley out off the circuit. Thanks for all the advice!

Re: Budda Wah Wah

I got a Crybaby just for the shell (it's a lovely crackle silver finish on it) and put in a replacement board from www.wah-wah.co.uk - tropical fish caps, handwound inductor and a full set of trimpots on the board, plus a sweep switch on the side of the wah. Sounds fantastic.

Both Fulltone and Teese are true bypass...

Re: Budda Wah Wah

The Budda wah smoked both my 70's Cry Baby and the recent Fasel Cry Baby....I don't use the wah much but it's good for what I need and the price was good.
