What would you recommend for Buddy Guy to install in his strats? Would you recommend that he use Texas Hots, Surfers, or should he wait for the new SD Noiseless pickups that are on the way?

"Damn Right I Got the Blues" sounds to me sound like an A5 pup, but I've heard that he currently uses Fender Gold Noiseless, is that what they're called? Which SD's would best compliment his tone?

I would suggest NOTHING to Buddy guy...I like his tone just the way it is! Since he got a Sig Strat he has used Gold Lace Sensors...NOT the Fender Noiseless. To me Classic BG Tone is a maple neck Strat and a Tweed Bassman, I like his Lace sensor tone as well...in fact his tone lately is one of my FAV Syrat tones...it almost makes me want a set of Gold Lace Sensors!

Re: Buddy Guy

So, Buddy uses the Gold Lace Sensors (vintage wound/output) straight into a fully cranked Bassman. Dry tone, no OD pedals or effects, is that right?

Re: Buddy Guy

I can tell you he is a fan of the 200' cable. Although that is so he can get out in the crowd... ;) Isn't it amazing that he can get great sounds out of Sensors but they sounded like garbage for me?

BTW - SEE HIM if you can. He was one of my first "real" (rock) concerts and it was definately in the top 5 I've seen.

Re: Buddy Guy

I liked him better pre-Lace. I'd (respectfuly) suggest a set of Surfers with the normal (non-custom) bridge.

sometimes he uses a wah (Stock Dunlop) and sometimes a octave box (Stock Boss) and sometimes a phase shifter (Stock MXR/Dunlop Phase 90)....

+1
I like his 60's Strat tone much better. He claims that someone else was tinkering with his tone and/or sound back then and it didn't match his live tone/sound.

Although I think I would recommend the new noiseless SD Strat pickups. I think most of the players who use the Fender Lace pickups use them because they are noiseless, not because of their tone.
