Build complete-some wiring questions

FInally completed build of a custom tele, JB4 in Bridge, Pearly gates in neck, Bigsby Etc....ready to wire it thanks to help from some on board earlier in build! Sorry for silly questions but I am SO close and want to wire it right!
1...do I really need to shield cavitys with HB(I have silver tape fromm Stewmac)
2...do I need to ground bridge and the bigsby
3...Do I need special wire to wire to the output jack

If it matters, pickup rings are wood, not metal, no pickguard....

Any help greatly appreciated....

I'll give it a shot.
1) Yes you'll need to shield the cavity.
2) Yes, the bridge needs to be grounded. And from what I understand the Bigsby might need grounding. Try it without first.
3) Shielded wire would be best. Something like this.

Good luck.

Re: Build complete-some wiring questions

As long as you ground the bridge, you shouldn't have to ground the bigsby. I saw a suggestion in a book by Adrian Legg that I like: rather than just running a wire from the input ground to the bridge, you go through a 220k resistor and .001 cap in parallel. This is a safety feature. In case of a hot ground from an malfunctioning amp, the resistor and cap will let through just enough current to give you a tingle when you touch the strings, rather than electrocuting you. Of course this doesn't protect you from a hot jack plate, metal knobs, etc. It still sound like a worthwhile mod to me.

Thanks much guys, moving through but struggling to figure out which lugs on the actual 3 way represent which on the seymour duncan wiring diagram....I have four lugs in a row on switch, obviously 3 relate to the pickup position, and one needs to be grounded, but not obvious to me today which :-)

Can you link to a pic or post one?

I sympathize with your problem. Unfortunately, parts vendors usually don't provide schematics with the parts they ship. Also, the semoure duncan diagrams (like everyone else) makes assumptions about what the pin-outs are going to be on components like switches. I have even seen advertisements for books in guitar electronics which boldly say: NO SCHEMATICS. This really pisses me off. A schematic diagram makes it much more clear as to what's going on with a setup than a pictorial diagram. I know a lot of people will feel unconfortable with reading schmatics. I don't mean that pictorial representations should be replace, only suplemented.

--- end or rant.

You can probably figure out what's going on with your switch with a continuity tester or multimeter, if you can figure out what the intention of the person was who wrote the wiring diagram. Post a link to which diagram you are looking at, and I may be able to let you know how to check out the switch to identify the correct contacts.
