Build me my pedalboard :D I need more ODs ;)

:laugh2: I'm bored and I'm loving pedals right now

I have right now:

SD1 (up for modding of course)
Bad Monkey
Plexitone
Big Muff
Small Stones phaser

I need more overdrive flavors I think.

The way I see my board is that I could plug it into either a PA or a poweramp/effects return and have my sounds there.

I use the Plexitone as my mainframe. The Bad Monkey is set for a little gain. The SD1 has gain at 0 and level all the way up. I'll mod it for a better OD.
The Big Muff is set for mean.

I had a Toadworks John Bulljr for a day... meh. I didn't like it as much as it was when I tried it in the shop.

I'm also building a certain crunchy pedal... but all my tools and stuff is gone for now.

So I just feel I need a completely different OD than what I have. Nevermind what amp or guitars I'm using, if at all possible... I just need some OD suggestions. Not much is available in the UK but eh, it's always a start.

I like thick, juicy tones. Harmonics are very important to me (the John Bull lacked that juice ) and I want to be able to cut through.

Boss OD-1 modified to vintage specs
Pro CO Rat "the Rat" pedal
Marshall Shredmaster
Dunlop Fuzz face modified to vintage specs

maybe Chandler tube driver but a certaoin expensive version

I usually dislike tubescreamers... The Bad Monkey is smoother sounding and has a limited EQ, the SD1 will get modded.

Never tried a Boss OD1... I may as well just do it! Same for a Rat, I'm not familiar with how they sound.

Good call on the Shredmaster...

Fulldrive seems to be a tubescreamer with a twist and a boost... so not for me.

OCD is way too expensive... but I do hear good things. I'll try one someday. I think I'm set as far as Marshall sounds go though...

So OD1 and Rat go on the list thanks!

This week, I have an SD-1 on my board with the Monte Allums GT mod kit in it. Very versatile, but With three knobs and two toggle switches, it might be too fiddly for me.

I have DS-1 sitting on the shelf that I just got Allums' Recto Mod kit for. Gotta put that in this week. I also have yet another SD-1 that's stock so far. I want to A/B that with the GT. Then maybe I'll do a half-vast version of the GT mod. There was a point about halfway through the mod (before I started adding switches and replacing diodes) that I really liked it.

My goal is to get down to one OD pedal, but I might end up with two: the DS-1 and some version of the SD-1.

i don't know why you would need more od's!

my plexitone and sd-1 boosted through my laney lc15r with my gibson paul sounds great and covers all shades of gain!

you should look into those mi audio pedals..mild to heavy drive with a reasonable price tag..the blues boy for ex.

Well there's two things you don't have. Both are things I didn't think I needed until I got them. You don't have a mosfet drive. I remembered the Ibanez Mostortion sucking royally, so I didn't think I needed mosfet drive, but the Lava Box and the Full-Drive showed me otherwise. You don't have a DS-1 either, which is another pedal from high school that I sold because it sucked. But it only turned out to "suck" because I got a Rockman Distortion Generator which, um.."blew it away" (at the time) I didn't use it as a TS style boost, I just wanted all out saturation. But now I use it as a boost sometimes and it's really tight and boxy for solos, while still having good note clarity. I've got one modded and one stock, but I wish I had my Japanese one back from high school.

I recently added a bunch of OD's, like an old Daddy-O, a DOD Supra Distortion (again trying to get back some of my high school pedals) Lava Box, Twin Tube Classic, Twin Tube Mayhem (oops! :nervous:I mean nevermind) Anyway if you're trying to go straight to a power amp or PA you might want something at the end to "tube it up" like the TT Classic, where you can run the rhythm channel as a "tube clean" tone.

A modded DS1 actually would be pretty nice... I kept a mod sheet of my tryouts from last time so I know how to make one sound good.
I also had Monte Allum's kit on the SD1 I did whichever was the most complete. I still swapped out the opamp anyway though.

I'll check out the Lava Box as soon as it arrives on these shores. They cost around 200 bucks here.

I shall ignore the 'ooops' and very quietly hope for something waaaayyyy cool....

No Twin Tube classics around... and it'd be a bit too much for my budget unfortunately. The Plexitone is basically my dirt preamp for now.

So I'm adding the Lava Box to the list! Thanks!

Oh and I'm adding a compressor too. A EH Soul Preacher most likely. Or I may get a MXR compressor if the price is right, not sure yet.

Right now I have Bad Monkey - SD1 - Plexitone.
The Compressor will be first in the chain... the DS1 will be just before the Phaser and the 'tone will still be last in chain. I think.

Anyone here ever hear the Rocktron Austin Gold? It has a ton of output, but not a ton of overdrive. It won't saturate to any extreme, but it will goose the juice out of the preamp tubes. Used by itself as an OD, it makes the high mids stand out in a nicely rounded way so you cut through. Used as a boost after another OD pedal, it takes the second pedal's sound and makes it huge and fat. You can run it clean at the end of the chain just to give the amp a bit more of the other stuff on the board, but I like the tone when used as an OD for it's own sound. Makes the neck pickup on my LP do the flutey thing better than any other pedal I have tried.

Rocktron stuff isn't available in the UK. Your description makes it seem like a tube screamer though?
